Manager Spotlight - Anjennette (Angie) Gamble

School Food and Nutrition Services (SFNS) hired Angie Gamble on July 19, 2019, as a Cook for Our Lady of the Lake School Cafeteria. In 2021, Angie signed up for the Manager-In-Training Program and was promoted to Food Service Manager at St. Scholastica for the start of the 2021-2022 school year.

Angie loves everything about her job! She loves the environment, she loves the students, she loves the students’ faces when one of their favorite desserts or meals are being served and she loves her staff. There is a lot going on in Angie’s kitchen and her staff are very helpful. Angie and her staff have not been at St. Scholastica very long, but they know how to get the job done. The St. Scholastica students love Angie and her staff and are always letting them know. The students appreciate everything Angie does for them...knowing their names, preparing their meals, serving them with a smile or just being herself…a happy person having a good day and sharing it with others.

Away from work, Angie enjoys spending time with her family. She also keeps very busy making birthday pins and personalized party favors for her crafting business, The Craft Lab (thecrftlab on Instagram). Angie also helps her cousin with catering on the weekends.

School Food's Louisiana Hunger Hero Sandy Logrande

This school year SFNS has faced significant challenges. A labor shortage has affected the food distribution and production industries. Unfilled cafeteria positions are forcing some cafeterias to stop preparing homemade items, offer less food choices and work harder than ever. One of our food vendors terminated our bid contract due to the sale of their business. Hurricane Ida damaged our Central Office moving us to a new location in November 2021.

In spite of all these issues, I remained focused on finding creative ways to feed our students. Premade dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls and breadsticks were bought to help with cafeterias that are short staffed. SFNS created new recipes from the products we were receiving, such as Creole pastalaya, Chicken Parmesan with grilled chicken and Strawberry yogurt parfaits. Also, SFNS found product substitutions for items having production issues. I am in constant communication with our vendors, old and new, to ensure that our cafeterias receive the necessary components to serve healthy meal options to our students.

No matter what the challenge, I guarantee you that I am dedicated to the health and nutrition of the students we serve in the Archdiocese of New Orleans and the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux.

Manager Spotlight - Natoshya Lowe

Natoshya Lowe was hired on June 22, 2018, as a Technician for St. Dominic Elementary School Cafeteria. While at St. Dominic, Natoshya signed up for the Manager-In-Training Program. She trained at St. Joan of Arc School Cafeteria in New Orleans. In October 2019, Natoshya was promoted to Food Service Manager at St. Anthony Elementary School in Gretna and she is still there today.

Natoshya always wanted to be a Food Service Manager. It is her dream job! “If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.” Some people may think this is a cliché quote, but not Natoshya. Natoshya’s job is fulfilling work that is satisfying and gives her a sense of pleasure. She loves the students and when she sees them, all of her troubles are washed away. Her staff is amazing; they are family. They always do an awesome job and she loves the administrative staff and faculty at St. Anthony School too.

Away from work, Natoshya enjoys spending time with her children, cooking and Second Line Sundays.
