Merry Christmas and happy holidays all! I've got one to add to that holiday playlist for spirit appreciators and moonshiners.

The Spirits of Christmas

Well, the last present's delivered
And the snow outside's gettin' thicker
So let's open that bottle of liquor
Hey, bourbon, take me home

On bourbon, on vodka, on scotch, and on gin
Take me back, let the North Pole dancing begin
It's my party I'll be naughty get more lit than a tree
Put that elf on a shelf and Merry Christmas to me

Oh, bourbon
Oh, bourbon
Oh, bourbon
Oh, bourbon
Oh, bourbon
Oh, bourbon
Oh, bourbon
Oh, bourbon, oh, bourbon, oh, bourbon, oh, bourbon
Oh bourbon, on bourbon, on bourbon
Oh, bourbon
Oh... bourbon
Ohhhh, bourbon.

Wow... buy a digital copy of my book for $2.99! I'm not sure how long this deal will last (really, I have no idea, managed by Amazon and my publisher), but that's a 90% savings on the cover price!

A nice write-up by a home distiller on How To Distill if you're still on the fence about getting the book. I won't share the whole post, check out the blog!

"I had my eye on How To Distill by Aaron Hyde for a while. It has a pretty good reputation as a beginner text. Good for me, because I’m more than rusty with the soup to nuts process. Sounded like a win-win…and I’m pleased to report that I was absolutely correct.

Sure, a lot of the material covered in the text is stuff that I already know, but I think that the volume is as good or better than the Guide to Urban Moonshining for beginners. For those who have read most of this blog, you’ll know that’s high praise."

Well, vacation is officially underway. I’m way outta dodge, but my thoughts are still with my…still. Since the days of fast paced, jet set vacations are in my rearview (for now) I neede…

It was great to get a chance to talk about distilling at Homebrew Con in Pittsburgh this year!

The first Homebrew Con in person since Covid hit was last week, June 23rd - 25th in Pittsburgh. It was great talking to homebrewers again, especially those interested in distilling! I was in attendance representing BSG Handcraft, Grainfather, and Still Spirits at our booth during the expo. I really....

Happy National Moonshine Day everyone!

Every first Thursday in June is National Moonshine Day! With a large number of commercial operations making moonshine (in most instances a clear, unaged whiskey) it's easier than ever to celebrate this holiday. If you're looking to try your own hand at moonshining, keep in mind that it's still illeg...

Anyone heading to Craft Brewers Conference in Minneapolis? I'll be leading a panel on building a brewstillery business with some industry experts!

If you find yourself at the Craft Brewers Conference in Minneapolis this May, don't miss out on the panel I'll be leading around brewstilleries, and all you need to consider when adding a distillery to a craft brewery. If you're interested in all that goes into adding or opening a distillery to a bu...

Have you made a Tennessee Whiskey before?

Our Jack Daniel's clone kit is up on the website, and it includes sugar maple charcoal, the same type of charcoal used by Jack Daniels for the Lincoln County filtering process used to make most Tennessee whiskey.

This Jack Daniel's clone kit makes 5 gallons of wash between 10-12% ABV. This typically produces around 1 gallon of finished spirit. You will usually get between 0.8 gallons (4000mls) and 1.2 gallons (5000mls) based on mash efficiency, your still, and your aging technique. The all-grain kit contains...

We've started building clone kits of bourbons, and will soon be adding other whiskies and spirits!

Have you ever made a spirit from a kit? What sort of clone kit would interest you? Tanqueray gin? Captain Morgan rum? Let us know and we might be able to add it! :)

This kit makes 5 gallons of wash at 12% ABV. Typically produces around 1 gallon of finished spirit. You will usually get between 0.9 gallons (4000mls) and 1.1 gallons (5000mls) based on mash efficiency, your still, and your aging technique. What we know about Angel's Envy bourbon: It contains 72% Co...

Some folks in the spirits world are arguing smooth is not descriptive enough to be worthwhile when describing whiskey. Check out my latest article where I defend the use of the word 'smooth'.

Have you used it to describe a spirit before?

A distiller gives a spirited defense of an adjective that can have real meaning
