Slide guitar player, Sonny Landreth, is from Lafayette, Louisiana. He began playing guitar when he was 12 years old and has been a member of Clifton Chenier’s music group, The Red Hot Louisiana Band, and a guest guitarist in Jimmy Buffet’s Coral Re**er Band. Landreth has held top 5 Billboard chart ratings on several of his recordings, and his album Recorded Live in Lafayette (2017) was nominated for a Grammy. His most recent album, Blacktop Run (2020), is ranked in the top 5 on Official Americana and Jazz and Blues album charts

For 20 years, the Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival has been all about the music on the stage. This year, we’re making room for the stories behind it.

We are incredibly excited to bring back the Oral History Stage at this year's fest! Over the weekend, we’re sitting down for some truly intimate, deep-dive conversations with living legends Linda Gail Lewis, Jimmy "Duck" Holmes, George Porter Jr., and Booker T. Jones.

This isn't your standard artist Q&A. We’re going back to the roots - talking about what it was like growing up in places like Ferriday, Bentonia, New Orleans, and Memphis. We want to honor the neighborhood clubs, the legendary studios, the mentors, and the quiet moments where rock & roll, blues, funk, and soul were actually born. It’s all about memory, community, and the musical traditions passed down from one hand to the next.

Even better, every single conversation is being recorded and preserved by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Archive, so that these firsthand experiences are saved for the generations coming behind us. Because keeping the music alive means keeping the stories alive, too.
