Wilson Dunham Farms

Note to self: Always consult the flock before starting a construction project. 🪵👀

I set out to build a functional nesting box for the farm, but the juvenile Delawares clearly had better plans. They have officially converted it into their personal afternoon siesta box.

Honestly, looking at them all snuggled up in the fall air, I can’t even be mad about it.

All time record pewee eggs at 19 grams yesterday from a Maran / Bresse pullet!

About a month old now.

These little cannonballs seem to be just as robust as their parents - enhanced Delaware Broilers from McMurray hatchery.

Very very pleased.

5 weeks apart.

A dozen American Bresse +
A dozen Delaware Broilers

Slowly building up my breeding stock numbers/selection. You could say I'm putting down chips on both red and black :-)

Southern Ohio. Let me know if you ever might be interested in :
- hatching eggs
- chicks
- breeding quads

So I can plan for the future.

14 weeks >> 8 weeks.

Dual Purpose roolz !!

If you're looking to improve either:

Comb size (huge) or
Foot color (very dark blue)

I'VE GOT THE AMERICAN BRESSE ROO YOU NEED!

I'm not keeping him as a breeder because - full disclosure - I don't love his body composition. Shallow-ish chest and a bit narrow.

Temperament is ok, just a tad on the skittish side for my taste. Not aggressive. 5 months old. Southern Ohio. Make offer.

Yes we're THAT Wilson Dunham Rd.

Everyone's fine, house is fine, dogs are fine, barn is fine, chicken runs are fine from Tuesday's tornado. Just a huge mess.

Very near miss. Scary stuff.

I wonder if anyone has studied optimum eggs size vs. earliest processing date in dual purpose breeds.

I'm going to start measuring and recording weights much more closely to see what trends I can infer.

It makes sense to me at 15% larger egg would produce a larger chick, right?

Couple of potential keepers - just teenagers - enjoying some shade today. I like the pale beaks and nearly perfect snow white color w/ no yellowing. Both very chill boys ( so far ! ) Waiting for one of them to separate himself either positively or negatively.

Bought this same bag last May for $49. I know their costs have gone up, I get it.

Cracked corn basically flat in that timeframe.

But FFS. Ridiculous. I'm done. No longer a customer.
