If you've ever spotted a Narren in New Ulm, you may have wondered what their story is.

Rooted in centuries-old German tradition, Narren are playful characters known for bringing laughter, mischief, and fun to festivals and community celebrations. While their masks and costumes may seem unusual at first, they're an authentic part of the German heritage that helped shape New Ulm.

Today, the Narren of New Ulm carry on that tradition—appearing at festivals, parades, and special events to share a little humor, a little mystery, and a lot of Gemütlichkeit.

Just one more reason New Ulm isn't your average small town. 🇩🇪

This monument tells one of New Ulm's most important stories.

The Defenders' Monument honors the civilians and soldiers who defended New Ulm during the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862, a defining chapter in the community's history.

Erected by the State of Minnesota in 1891, the monument features artwork by renowned New Ulm artist Anton Gág and remains one of the city's most significant historic landmarks.

Not every state park has a swimming pond. Ours does. 💦

Tucked inside Flandrau State Park, the sand-bottom swimming pond has been a summer favorite for generations. The pond is chlorinated, maintained throughout the season, and reaches a maximum depth of seven feet.

Spend the day hiking the trails, exploring the park, and cooling off in one of New Ulm's most iconic summer spots. ☀️

🏊 Lifeguards are on duty whenever the pond is open.
🕛 Open Thursday–Sunday, noon–6 PM (through the third Sunday in August).

The first Downtown Car & Bike Roll-In of the season is happening June 13!

Cruise Minnesota Street, check out incredible vehicles, grab dinner or a drink downtown, and enjoy live music as the streets fill with some of the coolest rides around.
