Science nerd and surfboard shaper Tom Morrow from Long Beach, NY, has unveiled his wildest creation yet—the seaweed surfboard. Made entirely from 100% seaweed, this board is designed to dissolve back into the ocean after a single session, leaving no waste behind. Using compressed kelp and algae-based resins, it’s buoyant enough to ride but naturally breaks down in salt water, challenging the toxic materials used in traditional surfboards.

Morrow sees his invention as more than just a board—it’s a statement on sustainability. “Surfers talk about being one with the ocean,” he says. “I wanted to take that literally.” While still experimental, the seaweed surfboard has sparked curiosity, pushing the surf industry to rethink its impact and embrace truly ocean-friendly innovation.
