No one has a crystal ball although the market has been complex at best this year. While the auction houses all claim to be setting records and the market is hot, I have seen a correction and collectors are more or less in a holding pattern unless they need to monetize selections for cash flow. Where do you think the market will go?

I love Bourbon...and was drinking and selling it before it was trendy. I had quotas on placements of Pappy Van Winkle. I think the 20yr was around $50-60 then - had I only known then what we all know now. Great Bourbon has become a luxury. What's your favorite?

Congratulations to all who were recognized. How glamorous it is to import wines, right? You get to travel to the wineries, get to know the winemakers and teams, taste (hopefully) great wines, then you get to tell the wineries stories to distributors, sales teams, retailers, on-premise and consumers... What you can't imagine is the complexity of their work, dealing with distributors that don't build brands (generally), figuring out all of the state and federal regulations, taxes, logistics, pricing, programming (extra $ out of pocket to get the sales teams to focus), traveling for wine shows, tastings, endless work withs (working with sales rep in the field) and meetings to name a few.

He was a legend that will be missed in the wine world. I remember the first time I tasted his wines as a somm in the early 90's at Gotham Bar & Grill with him and his team. I loved the wines so much that I added them to over 40 wine lists that I wrote. They were hand-sells and everyone I sold them to or tasted were blown away...absolutely wonderful wines from Domaine des Baumard. If you don't know Chenin Blanc from Savennières - find them!
