A bit of creative license taken on this new version of a much loved carol.
I was just thinking about how sheep can be so peaceful, but are also incredibly insistent when it comes to food.
It would have been difficult to get a baby to sleep at the barn in Bethlehem, if the sheep thought it was lunch time.

🎶Away in a manger, no crib for a bed
The sheep ate the straw from under baby’s head
And now they are moaning about starvation and such,
And Mary is pleading, “Stop moaning and hush.”

The sheep are still moaning, the baby awakes
And Mary says, “Sheep, not much more can I take.
If I give you these presents of frankincense and myrrh
Will that keep you quiet so the baby won’t stir?”

“We promise, dear lady,” the sheep they did vow.
And settled in quietly (at least for now).
They gathered in close and were quiet as mice
Sensing the important of this child on this night.

The sound of their chewing acted as a metronome.
Which lulled the dear baby in their lowly home.
And gently they nuzzled to keep the child warm,
A woolly embrace for the prince newly born.🎶
