Vendor Spotlight!
If you've been coming to the Downtown Market, chances are you will recognize one of our regular vendors who has been with us for the last four years- Farm 396!
Farm 396 came about when Justin and his partner, Deana, felt like their property, which had been a farm previously, should be doing more than laying fallow. Together, they decided to try hydroponic growing so they could grow more in less space and need less labor and equipment. Additionally, growing their produce in containers allows them to significantly reduce or even eliminate the need for various pesticides and herbicides while also giving them greater control of water usage!
When asked what their favorite product to sell is, it's hard for them to narrow it down to one product since they are seasonal. But Justin did say "Cool weather gives us the ability to sell a bunch of veggies from our friend's farm that we can't grow hydroponically, and it feels really good to bring well-grown veggies to people that otherwise would be hard-pressed to get them." He also loves their farm-made preserves and pickles!
And the best part of the Downtown Market in Justin's opinion? The people! The market has such a diverse group of both vendors and visitors it really makes everyone there feel included and welcome! We love having Farm 396 as a vendor each week. Stop by and see them and our other lovely vendors tomorrow from 9-1 in Ponce De Leon Park! And stay tuned for even more vendor spotlights!
