Ever wondered how many grains of rice are in a 14oz box? Yeah, me neither…until today. Here’s what happened.
So there I was, all set to make some rice. I grab the box, flip it over to check the instructions, and…. they’re in cups. You might think “No big deal.” But oh, it IS a big deal—because I don’t own a measuring cup.
With no other options, I came up with a plan: count every grain of rice in the box and divide by the amount of servings. So I pulled out my handy-dandy notebook and got to counting!
After counting the first 500 grains and barely making a dent, I realized I needed A LOT more space. So, I repurposed an old box and carried on. Grain by grain, hour by hour, I kept counting, wondering if I’ll ever be able to eat my rice. But eventually, I made it to the end.
The answer? 22,669 grains of rice.
Dividing that by “about 8,” which is the number of servings listed on the box, I had my answer. I needed about 2,833 grains of rice for a single serving. Now 9.5 hours later I can finally cook up some rice and eat.
