Galaxy Eggshell Geodes 🌌🥚
You will need:
Eggshells (Cleaned, membrane removed, and dried) 🥚
Acrylic Paint (Black, Dark Blue, or Purple) 🎨
Alum Powder 🧂
White Glue 🧴
Boiling Water 💧
Food Coloring (Blue, Red, Purple) 🌈
Silver/Gold Glitter ✨
Paintbrush 🖌️
Instructions:
1. Prepare the "Space" Base 🌑
Paint the inside of your clean, dry eggshell with black or dark blue acrylic paint.
Let the paint dry completely. This dark background creates the "deep space" look behind your crystals.
2. Seed the Stars
Once the paint is dry, brush a layer of white glue over the paint.
Sprinkle Alum powder heavily over the wet glue.
Galaxy Twist: Sprinkle a pinch of silver glitter into the wet glue along with the Alum!
Let this dry overnight.
3. Mix the Nebula Solution 🧪
Dissolve 3/4 cup Alum into 2 cups of boiling water .
Add food coloring to make a dark "galaxy" color:
Deep Purple: 5 drops Blue + 3 drops Red
Midnight Blue: 6 drops Blue + 1 drop Green
Let the solution cool for 30 minutes.
4. Grow the Galaxy 🪐
Lower your black, seeded eggshell into the dark solution.
Wait 12-24 hours.
As the crystals grow, they will pick up the dark dye and sparkle against the black background, looking like a little pocket of stars!
Finish: Once dry, you can paint the outside of the shell gold or silver to look like a space rock meteor!
