Decadent Gooey Butter Cake: The Ultimate Sweet Indulgence!
Ingredients:
For the crust:
1 box of yellow cake mix (or homemade cake mix if preferred)
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 egg
For the filling:
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 box (16 oz) powdered sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan with butter or cooking spray.
Make the crust:
In a bowl, mix the cake mix, melted butter, and 1 egg. Stir until fully combined. The mixture will be thick.
Press this dough mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to form the crust.
Make the filling:
In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth.
Add in the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Gradually mix in the powdered sugar, flour, and salt. Beat until fully combined. The filling should be smooth and slightly runny.
Assemble the cake:
Pour the filling mixture over the crust, spreading it out evenly.
Bake for about 40 to 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is slightly set but still gooey.
Cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour before cutting into squares. This allows the cake to firm up slightly.
Serve: Dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving.
