Italian Sunday Tray — 16 standard portions
Full Tray — 20 standard portions

There are dishes you learn to cook, and dishes you simply grow up with.

For me, Anelletti al Forno are the second kind.

Growing up in Palermo, this wasn’t a “specialty” or something you went looking for. It was Sunday lunch. Family gatherings. Beach days. The kind of food that showed up in a big tray and somehow tasted even better the next day.

Every family has their own version — ragù with peas, cheese, breadcrumbs, and then whatever that family swears belongs inside: fried eggplant, hard-boiled eggs, pieces of salumi… sometimes all of it.

There’s no single perfect recipe.

There’s just your family’s recipe.

And now, after years of making it the way I grew up eating it, I think it’s time for Rockaway to meet one of Palermo’s most iconic comfort foods. 🇮🇹🌊

This dish is my ultimate comfort food.
As always, it’s all about simplicity: just a handful of ingredients, yet an explosion of flavor.

And even now that I’m an adult, fully capable of handling the molten-hot temperature of this dish, I still eat it the way my mom taught me when I was a kid: with a small plate on the side to let each bite cool down first.

Because Italian food has never been only about flavor or technique.
Before anything else, it’s about tradition, about memories, about love.
