In 2026 we’re not wasting food! If you’ve got bread that’s about to turn, turn it into freezer French toast instead of freezing the loaf and hoping future you figures it out.

Here’s exactly how I do it:

✨ Custard
• 4 cups milk
• 4 eggs
• Splash of vanilla
• Dash of cinnamon
Whisk together. Start here, you can always make more if needed.

✨ Cook
• Dip each slice for just a couple seconds (don’t oversoak or it gets mushy).
• Cook in butter over medium heat until golden on both sides.
• A griddle is faster, but a large skillet works just fine.

✨ Freeze
• Let French toast cool completely.
• Lay flat on a sheet pan with parchment so slices don’t stick.
• Freeze until solid.
• Transfer back into the bread bag with small pieces of parchment between each slice.

✨ Reheat
• Toast on LOW.
• It may take 1–2 cycles depending on your toaster.
• Heat until warmed all the way through.

Future you now has breakfast handled.
No waste. No extra thinking.
Save this for the next time your bread is on borrowed time. 🥲

I know I’ve said before that buying a whole chicken doesn’t always save that much compared to pre-cut parts.

And that’s still true.

But when you’re working with a tight grocery budget, a whole chicken isn’t just about price per pound, it’s about flexibility.

For less than $20 I get:
• 4 breasts
• 4 thighs
• 4 drumsticks
• 8 wing pieces
• 4 tenderloins
• bones for homemade stock
• sometimes even giblets

That’s multiple meals + broth for soups, rice, sauces, etc.

When I was 20 and living on about $40 a week for groceries (yes, donating plasma era 🥲), a whole chicken felt like a gold mine.

You don’t have to buy in bulk to stretch your groceries, you just need to know how to use everything.

Every few weeks I grab two and break them down for the freezer.

If you want to see exactly what meals I make from them, let me know.

There’s been a lot of conversation lately about SNAP and “junk food” restrictions. Since rules can vary depending on where you live, it helps to have clear information about what’s covered.

That’s why I partnered with Propel a free app that helps you check your SNAP balance, track spending, and stay up to date on benefit changes in your state.

And even if certain items are restricted, you can still make your favorite treats at home with simple, SNAP-eligible staples. This homemade Twix bar dupe uses basic ingredients like flour, butter, sugar, caramel, and chocolate to recreate that crunchy, chewy, chocolatey treat.

Because everyone deserves to enjoy their food. 🤎

Sometimes the Dollar Tree run just…doesn’t hit the same anymore.

Prices are going up, but the shelves mostly look the same. As someone whose whole thing is making meals from Dollar Tree, I’m honestly not sure what to think right now.
