Our First Ever Confirmed Winston aka Winnie Breeding!

When Flo got here to the farm on December 14th, Winnie immediately picked her out and got to work. So I wrote down the date - Flo due with first Winnie baby September 23rd. I Preg checked her a few days later just to confirm she did not come to me bred.

Winnie was our first ever bull we bought, a beautiful fluffy 7 month old. I’ve been waiting for this day 🙌 This baby will be a short stack for sure.

UPDATE: Might have figured it out because I’m two bricks shy of a load 😆🤦🏻‍♀️. The next three tests I did 2/3 were positive.

Preg checking today, all by myself with no help! Not even help holding tails. 🙌🤠💪

This is the first time this has happened, but I have checked 6 girls with all negative results. 😫.

IDEXX tests - kept indoors (I’ve made the mistake of leaving them in my car, so lesson learned).

I thought at least one was visibly pregnant and had her patch rubbed off in December.

3 have been running with an unproven bull (my Winnie guy, 2 1/2 yrs old)

3 have been running with my bull Ronnie Dun and I have had positive results with him bred to some of my other girls already .

What do you think - bad tests? Just how it goes sometimes? User error?

I’m trying to see if I can get the last two girls in - one exposed to Winnie and one exposed to Ronnie to see if results are the same.

Kind of bummed though.

Farm life is amazing.

Right up until you’re trying to attend a wedding.

Yesterday’s timeline:

11:00 — Chase cows.

2:30 — Get cleaned up.

3:00-ish — Leave for Tulsa.

3:02 — Tire light.

3:15 — Tire shop.

3:20 — “Good news, we found the problem.”

3:21 — “Bad news, you need a tire.”

4:40 — Arrive at wedding that started at 4:30.

Fortunately, they were just getting started, so I didn’t have to make the awkward entrance I had been preparing for the entire drive.

My niece looked beautiful.

The truck survived.

The cows stayed put.

And I learned that apparently sidewall punctures don’t care about wedding invitations.

It’s 8:04 and my cows are all in with the fence I fixed by myself in the dark last holding as of now.

Guess how long from now before I get a call from my favorite OKC Sergeant saying “Hey Kasey, got some cows out” . If you guess within 2 minutes of the call, Lars Junior is yours. Or I will mail you a spiral notebook with the “REASONS I LIKE COWS BETTER THAN PEOPLE” cover.

Will my lone fence fixing hold? Will they find another weakness and push through?

Only time will tell.

I am looking for a companion for Carl Wayne. My goats and my babydoll sheep have not taken to him and he is incredibly lonely. Looking for an F-2 or higher EWE so I can breed up. Would love a possible trade deal as I have a few cows/calves/kunekunes/goats available OR a reasonable priced ewe that won’t bankrupt me 😉

Learn Something new Every Day.

I’m bound and determined to not make this a negative post because I cloaked myself in the full armor of God today, so all attacks at every turn are taken in stride today.

First of all @ all the Ladies who are weaklings like my almost 50 year old self BUT are also Cowgirl Confident 😉. This handy dandy new trick may not be news to some but it was for me. I absolutely always let my husband do the T-post driver because I am not strong enough to lift that thing up over my head to get over the t-post.

Tonight I found myself in a conundrum because my husband is out of town, but the pasture I put my cows in to get them as far away from the neighborhood as possible has a long run that should have more t-posts (hired someone to do this section) so cows decide “aha we have found your weak link and we know dad is out of town” over the fence they go, mind you these are my miniatures. I pull in my driveway from work at 8:00 pm AFTER driving by the pasture to make sure all is well and bam 💥 3 calls you’ve got like 7 cows out. In they go and now we have t-posts that need to be driven to fix this fence and it’s now dark.

Solution ladies when we have to work smarter not harder - lay that tpost on the ground - slide that heavy 🫏 t-post driver on the top and then lift it up as one unit and drive that t-post down. Whew 😥 it took me a couple of hours to get them all done and I might be sweatin like a 💃 in ⛪️ (pardon my French especially while I speak of having the armor on) but I’m fixing to finally walk in my house. My house where both my AC units have been out for days and I have no time to meet anyone to have them fixed, but there’s a bed in there. Glass is half full. See how that armor is working for me today?
