As some of you know last Wednesday, Jan 5th FWF and Nadias Hope Equine Rescue were made aware of a horse in dire need. This sweet soul had found himself in the kill pen and struggling to survive, literally. With help from our amazing friends we were able to get him out of the kill pen and to a wonderful farm where he will go through his quarantine and start his rehab. He is emaciated and is far from “out of the woods” but he has a strong will to live! If you’d like to keep up with his daily updates please follow Nadia’s Hope Equine Rescue thank you to all our friends for your donations and prayers!

Students: Due to the weather, Mondays lessons have been postponed. You should have heard directly from your instructor or Shallon by now, if you haven’t reach out.
Boarders: driveway is not plowed, would not recommend coming without 4WD. All is good out here.
Enjoy your snow day!

STUDENTS- friendly reminder this is the first of the month, please bring your December lesson payment. We are sorry but we are being stricter about payments. If the payment is not brought by your second lesson there will be no riding. If you have made prior arrangements with Julie you can disregard this post. Thank you for your understanding.

It’s funny ‘cause it’s true…..

Rules for dating/marrying an equestrian: (I did not originally write this)

1) They WILL have layers of clothes and muddy boots....either provide a place for them to drop these things or don't whine about the mess.
2) Expensive tack is still cheaper than the horse and human medical bills that can result from cheap tack. Good tack also lasts longer than the horse. Don't question the tack.
3) One horse is never enough. Don't even question this. It is a law of the universe.
4) Caring for the horse is ALWAYS more expensive than the horse. Whining about the purchase price is pointless.
5) When they say, "I'm just going to stop out at the barn for a few minutes." you should probably just make plans on your own the rest of the day.
6) That not-a-morning-person that you are used to will completely disappear on the mornings a trailer must be hooked up for a horse-related event. They will be replaced by a bright-eyed super-intense type-A psycho who will NOT care that you need 5 more minutes for your coffee because they need to be at the barn at 5:45 am PRECISELY.
7) Vet bills for horses start at 4-digits and go up from there. If it's less than $1000, pay it quickly and run out of the vet's office before the horse suddenly develops another problem.
8 ) No matter how badly your significant other is injured, you should NEVER blame the horse. In fact, don't mention the injury or the horse if you can avoid it. Suggesting they should avoid riding until they are healed will probably get you a crutch upside the head.
9) If you don't know what to get for a holiday or birthday, a gift card to the feed store is ALWAYS a good option. If you have messed up somehow, this is an excellent way to get out of the dog house. The value should reflect how much trouble you are in. A bouquet of feed store gift cards is generally sufficient to cover very bad mistakes, such as burning down the house or crashing the truck.
10) Your equestrian will be fine if you have your own hobbies and interests. In fact, you had better get your own hobbies and interests. If you want to spend significant time with your equestrian, you need to develop a useful skill.....such as driving a tractor, shoveling, operating a video camera, leatherwork of any sort, or becoming a veterinarian.
11) Trucks are not optional. Yes, the truck and trailer rig will likely be at least half the cost of your house. Arguing about this is unwise, your equestrian will happily LIVE in the truck and trailer and suggest selling the house.
12) Horse craziness is hereditary, generally passed down the maternal lines, but can be present on the males side as well. Prepare for this when planning children.
13) If you need your equestrian to spend more time at home, we suggest building a barn on your property.
14) Dates should be planned in a different county from where the horse is located. If the equestrian gets within 50 miles of the horse, they will need to stop by. You will be stuck there, see point number 5 above.
15) Never make it a competition between you and the horse. New significant others generally cost less money and are faster to train than a new horse. Just saying.

Who is coming trick or treating this Sunday? I need a head count ASAP! Reminder, for insurance reasons only boarders/leasers can ride a horse but anyone is welcome to come along on the “float”! We are still holding regular lessons on Sunday so lesson horses are not available to go this year. We are aiming to ride out around 2ish and will have the horses home before dark.

Last horse show of the Pwha season today, to say we are all PROUD of our riders and horses this season is an understatement! The growth both in and out of the saddle was a pleasure to watch. The sportsmanship was incredible and the love for the horses always came first! Great job this season, we are looking forward to the next one! ❤️

Students- Benefit horse show reminders- Parents, did you see there is an adult lead line class?? Your child can lead YOU in the horse show for a switch 😉 the costume class is open to everyone, we have lots of horses available for use! Also, we are looking for volunteers to lead some of the horses in the “Rescue/auction horse exhibition class” in the Benefit Horse show on Oct 17th. It is not a riding class, just leading at the walk. Please let me know if you are interested, there is also a sign up sheet at the barn.

Every person we know who has lesson horses feels the same way and a lot of times parents just don’t understand through no fault of their own. Well written

Every student/rider should read this and understand why it is you can’t always just “jump bigger” or “run faster” etc…

((This is NOT mine))

Haven’t done one of these in a while - my last one got over 3k shares and eyes 😳this one has been sitting on my mind for a while now…

We are going to go on a small rant that’s been brewing for a while. This entire “I want to jump big rant, but only want to pay for lessons.”

My lesson horses are saints. They work hard. They know their job. Their job is to teach your child the fundamentals on how to be a better rider so they can then decide if this is really what they want to pursue. So with that said, they are limited in jump height for lessons. I’m not going to ask my lesson horses to jump over 2’3” all week just so your kid can “jump bigger.”

You want to jump bigger? Great! I love hearing that! But now it’s time to put some skin in the game. Half lease, lease, or purchase a horse. Why? Because the maintenance and care I put in my horses to compete and stay at that higher level far supersedes your X amount of lesson fee.

My horses all go in shoes when they compete/jump bigger, get massage, chiro, magnawave, maintenance (injections/whatever they need) and not to mention the board, insurance, teeth, and regular annual maintenance. Want to know what that adds up to? Over 1k per month for me to keep a horse for your kid to come “jump big” once a week.

So when you want to leave me because I say it’s now time to half lease or lease so your kid can continue to accomplish their goals - don’t be surprised when I don’t try to hold on to you or beg you to stay. At that point my horses and myself are being fully taken advantage of and I will not tolerate it.

Horses are expensive. Period. There is no way to get around that. So please don’t get upset when I protect my lesson horses best interest, because when they break or something happens - guess whose paying the bill? Me. Guess whose suffering? My horse!

Now for those who still don’t understand - let me break it down this way to where maybe the concept will be easier.

You buy your dream car. Let’s say a Ferrari. You take great care of it, the best parts, pay great insurance, and all. I show up once a week ask for the keys throw you $60 and go romp on it around the block for an hour. Breaking down the breaks, god forbid I scratch it, or cause something to break, come back and throw the keys back at you and say “thanks - see you next week!” Now, how would
You feel? It just DOESN’T WORK LIKE THAT. Was that $60 worth the damage that was just put on the vehicle? No!

Now let me preface this - if I have a hard working kid that can’t afford a half lease, but who comes and bust their butt for me. Yes, I will give them plenty of opportunities! I know everyone is not made of money - I worked my butt off to get where I am now and worked very hard to have the rides I did growing up.

So understand what I mean when I say you need skin in the game. Show some commitment. These horses aren’t robots. They work hard and I will NEVER stop protecting my lesson horses.

End rant 🦄
