For the past seven years or so, our organization has been run on a volunteer basis, getting willing collaborators to pull off amazing events that it has truly been a joy to be a part of. All net revenues earned from our events go right back into our nonprofit organization, to pay for future events and activities that serve the locally-owned bars and restaurants around North Kansas City. And our ability to do that is only as good as the time and energy available by our volunteers.

That said, our committee has chosen to end on a high note, regarding the NKC Fall Fest event -- with two successful street parties we will always fondly remember. Due to personal scheduling conflicts, business closings in NKC, and a crowded field of Fall events in the Kansas City area, we decided that instead of breaking the backs of the few volunteers available to go all-in this year, that we would approach the City of NKC about repurposing those tourism dollars for a future event.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who has supported the event in the past, as well as our Pint Path pub crawls. A big shout-out to Kathy Burrows, who led the effort last year... as well as Nathan Rausch of the Record Machine, who coordinated some pretty tasty band lineups in '23 and '24. If you'd like to thank this team of volunteers and buy them a drink sometime, reach out to Chandler Hottenstein, Kaleigh Rangel, Jessica Johnson, Kiley Sutter, and Sean Galloway (plus Sam Jones for lending her talents to Jessica's arts and games space for the kiddos). And major thanks to Kim Nakahodo and Bryant Delong, who helped make this happen at the City level. Apologies if I'm forgetting anyone -- there's a whole army of day-of volunteers and champions for this event who contributed, little by little, along the way. We will miss Kathy, and Big Rip Brewing Co, on the southside of Swift Ave. She's the glue that helps hold the craft brewing scene together in KC. Wherever she lands-- be sure to make that a regular hangout of yours, as you'll be in good hands!

North Kansas City is full of hard-working creative people, and I don't doubt that whatever comes next will be spectacular. Thanks for giving us the chance, and let this be a reminder that you don't have to have tons of resources or experience to put together a passion project. Go out and build a team, and make sure it's something you want to work hard at, even if it means occupying that precious sliver of personal time that we don't get enough of in life.

One more big appreciation post goes out to Ben Wendt (seen here, front and center with his band Land Lion).

Ben graciously volunteered his time to MC our music stage for the second year in a row, and we couldn't ask for a better face of the Northtown music scene to be up there. Ben is part-owner and operator of The RINO music venue, which has brought people out to NKC weekly on a quest for solid local and touring bands, and something new they haven't heard before-- be it indie bands or the bourgeoning stand-up comedy scene there. Ben is one of the most big-hearted people you will ever meet. He sums up Conan O'Brien's mantra that if you work hard and are kind, amazing things will happen for you. That goes for big showbusiness and it goes for the local entertainment scene as well. And Ben has collected no shortage of collaborators over the years.

In addition to being a dedicated family man, a local talent cheerleader, and the reason RINO stands to this day-- Ben is also a gifted musician. If you haven't heard "Townie Song" on The Bridge yet, do yourself a favor and Spotify it today, and find out why Land Lion is a Pitch magazine nominee for best local band. Their sound is described as a being for fans of Bright Eyes, Bruce Springsteen and The Arcade Fire-- and I can't think of a better Venn Diagram musically. Put on "Townie Song" some time as you reflect about your Midwest existence for those of us who, in our youth, screamed about getting out-- but stayed around to raise the next generation here. And the community built among those who said they were going to do the same thing. It's an anthem to be sure. Glad to have you here, Ben!

So many people to thank for another successful NKC Fall Fest šŸ

In addition to all of our beer and food vendors tagged in the post, we thank our sponsors with Besame Wellness, 3 Halves Brew Pub, Armour District, McLain's Market, Green Cat Energy Audits & Improvements, ProPrint, and the City of North Kansas City -- who through a generous grant -- made this event possible.

Major thanks to Team Fall Fest, especially Kathy Burrows, whose steady hand helped us throw the best beerfest ever! And Nathan Reusch of , who once again delivered with a top-notch music lineup. Jess Johnson's kids area provided fun for the little ones (with major help from Sam Jones and her tent full of fun activities).

Thank you to our couple dozen volunteers who got thrown into the deep end on a lot of tasks, and at the last minute. Their flexibility and patience with us helped pull off this multi-faceted event.

Thank you all NKC Public Works, City staff, Mayor Delong and City council -- and everyone who helped get the word out about this event.

And most of all thank you to everyone who took time out of their busy Fall, right after Halloween, in the middle of election season, to come down and help make this party a success! Funds raised will help our organization continue to do the nonprofit work of supporting and promoting small, brick-and-mortar storefronts in North Kansas City, and keep NKC a unique place to call home!

See you all next year ā¤ļø

We loved having Makayla and the whole gang from Honeybee open up NKC Fall Fest 2024 yesterday!

A great set to kick off a fun afternoon! If you liked what you heard, check out "saturn return" on Spotify!

honeybee. // Photo by Haley Mullenix As an increasingly old rock’n’roll fan, I still haven’t complained that concerts are getting too loud. I’m fairly certain the shows in my youth destroyed the frequencies that would allow me to be bothered by all that. But increasingly, I join in with the ...

Rounding up our entertainment for tomorrow -- the RiverNorth Business League, the City of North Kansas City, and The Record Machine welcome The Freedom Affair to NKC Fall Fest 2024

The Freedom Affair is a soul powerhouse inspired by the traditions of the genre’s past with a universal message that looks toward the future. Fronted by 3 dynamic, awe-inspiring singers – each seamlessly switching between lead, background, and harmonies without missing a beat – the band sets up a deep pocket with taste and precision that meets every moment between gentle and explosive. The Freedom Affair’s live shows have proven to be soul-stirring, transformative events, moving audiences physically and emotionally through joy, tears, and elation. Crowds rave about the fireworks these folks bring to the stage. This band is soul dynamite!

Riding the success of their debut album, Freedom is Love, with multiple sync placements highlighted by an Apple iWatch ad, the band has an arsenal of new music conceived and recorded in the wake of the COVID pandemic. This band shows no signs of letting up as they’re poised to keep turning out bangers while wowing live crowds for the foreseeable future. Do yourself a favor and get to a show, stream their music, and follow The Freedom Affair to keep up with their rapid ascension.

The Freedom Affair hits the stage at 14th & Swift at 4:00 p.m.
