Why a deposit?
A deposit ensures your commitment to the process. It takes a year and a half to raise a steer. The deposit lightly protects mine and the butchers labors. Deposits are $100 for ¼ orders or $200 for orders of ½ or more.
Do you offer sides or quarters of beef for purchase? If so, when will the beef be available?
You can order beef in ¼ sizes up to the whole steer. The beef will be available approximately 2 weeks after the butcher date as the meat is hung and left alone to “dry age”. This process tenderizes and flavors the meat as the water evaporates.
Can you tell me about how your cattle are raised? Are they grass finished or grain finished?
The cattle are raised on pasture grass and given hay during the winter months. The cattle always have access to clean water from an automatic tap. The herd has constant access to a mineral block to ensure they have essential nutrients such as salt, calcium and phosphorus. They are hand fed grain daily to ensure a maintenance level of protein and energy necessary for growth.
Do you use any growth hormones?
NEVER
What is your cost per pound for hanging weight?
Only $2.50/lb
Do you butcher the cattle yourself or do you work with a local butcher?
I work with Delaware Meats which is a butcher shop with great prices and a central location.
What is the cost per pound for processing?
58 cents per pound for ¼ orders and 55 cents per pound for orders of ½ or more.
Will you deliver the beef or will I need to pick it up from the butcher?
In order to pick up the meat you will have to have paid me in full for the meat. You will need to pay the butcher their processing fee when you pick up the meat. Delivery is not available. It is a good idea to bring boxes or coolers at pick up.
