There are a few times in the past five years of my business journey where I got truly burned out. I wasn’t just tired, I mentally and physically felt unable to motivate myself to do anything that came to business. I had lost my spark. So what did I do to get it back?
💤REST. Each time I’ve spread myself too thin I have taken a good chunk of time away from some aspect of my business to focus on recuperating. Sometimes it means stepping away from the kitchen for a bit. Or sometimes it’s been stepping back from events. Either way, I needed the time to recalibrate.
🤓Get perspective. It has always been helpful to tap other people in business I admire to ask for advice. It helps give perspective on what may be holding me down in the moment. I recommend doing this regularly anyway!
🧑🤝🧑Be a person. One sure fire way I’ve found to help ground myself is to expand my life. For the first five years, I really just did business 24/7. I’d dropped hobbies and spent a TON of time working. Some of it was necessary, but these days I try to have more balance. Getting time away from my business to restart exploring other interests has been helpful for my life overall.
When you’re tired and don’t feel like you can go on, sometimes it just means you need a break to re-evaluate. So take the rest. Write it down. Talk it out. And give yourself the space to take a new direction.
