Don't overfeed a puppy
Don't ask a dog for maximum performance until it is fully grown or at least one year of age
Don't encourage a dog to jump higher than their elbows until they are an adult
Put active dogs on chondroprotectives when they are young
Don't allow your dog to jump down off of furniture, beds, or onto a slippery floor
Using Chondroprotectives for KneesChondroprotective (cartilage-protecting) supplements containing glucosamine and chondroitin help keep knee joints healthy for several reasons. Chondroprotectives increase the moisture within cartilage so that the cartilage acts more like a mattress that provides cushioning as the bones come together. Which Injectable Chondroprotective Is Good?Adequan, an injectable medication, is among the best. Most dog owners can learn how inject their own pet so that if the veterinarian prescribes Adequan, they can administer the injections themselves. Injections are given once a week for a month, then once a month for a few months.
Which Oral Chondroprotectives Are Good?Cosequin or Glyco-Flex are excellent chondroprotectives and can start to be given when dogs are young. Research shows that joint injury is less severe and return to function is faster if the dog or cat was on a chondroprotective medication when an injury occurs.
If the joint is injured, switch to products with MSM, such as 1-800-PetMeds Super Joint Enhancer. MSM works like an herbal aspirin to control pain, but MSM doesn't have any of the side effects of aspirin, such as stomach ulcers. Injured dogs can be supplemented with Yucca Intensive to help prevent abnormal inflammation—heat, pain and swelling. Injured dogs can also be prescribed nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to control pain. Among the best areRimadyl, Etogesic, Deramaxx, Metacam, and Previcox. Although NSAIDs are effective at controlling pain, they have the potential to cause stomach ulcers, liver and kidney disease so they must be used with caution.

You love your pet, but you don’t necessarily love coming home to their odor. You pulled out the plug-ins and stopped with those sprays because you KNOW they’re bad for both you and your fur baby.
But now what? Are a few drops of Purification just not cutting it? Do you have a multiple pet home and need something a little more heavy duty? I hear ya!!
After house-sitting for a breeder a few times, I’ve come up with the following blend (I’m open to great name ideas, if you have them).
Odor Elimination blend
In an empty 15 ml bottle, combine
90 drops Purification
90 drops Thieves
30 drops Lemongrass
20 drops Orange
20 drops Peppermint
Here’s how I’m using it:
- screw it right into the AromaLux diffuser (most common)
-add 10-15 drops to one of the regular diffusers (the other rooms)
-add a few drops to baking soda in a glass jar and let sit overnight. Use as kitty litter freshener or carpet powder that you sprinkle on carpets before vacuuming
-put a few drops on a cotton round and toss in the bottom of garbage cans

*EDIT: I sent an email to USEF telling them this is outrageous and it’s time we (USEF and riders) had a conversation about the costs and what can be done or changed in order to bring down the price of horse shows. USEF wants to create an environment of inclusivity, but this is anything but... If we as riders want to see our sport thrive then we need to be concerned about this. Maybe if enough of us complain they will start putting a cap on the fees the shows can charge, or loosen some regulations and requirements that cause the show to need to charge these additional fees. *
We were browsing upcoming horse shows and were considering this one until we looked at the entry form.
When people start complaining that horse showing is only for the wealthy, this is why. For the record, this is a very average show. No large money classes, it’s not HITS... just a horse show.
$20 COVID fee, $85 shavings and manure disposal fee on top of the $250 stall, $125 to camp in your rig on the grounds if you do not pay to hook it up (separate from haul-in fee) ... You will be in for approximately $573/horse in show fees (if you don’t hook up your camper/trailer) before you even enter any classes.
The average person, ourselves included, cannot afford to do this every weekend, especially with young horses who just need show miles on their records. #makehorseshowingaffordable

Summer Horse Camps
Camp is open to all riders and levels ages 5-and up. Campers will have a lesson each day of camp and learn Horse Management and Care. Camp at Emerald Isle has 2 different time schedules.

9:00am to 3:00 pm or extended hours 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Monday through Friday
Drinks, snacks and lunch are provided daily.
Lessons are offered first this in morning, grooming, hoof care, tack cleaning.
All participants must have appropriate footwear and helmets.
Camp Rates
Camp is Monday through Friday
9:00 am to 3:00 pm – $375
9:00 am to 5:00 pm – $500
Day At Camp
9 am to 11 am: Ride first thing in the morning, learn how to groom, tack up and bubble bath their horse or pony, clean tack and mount in stall.
12 Noon: Have a great lunch.
1 pm: Arts and Crafts. Paint horse shoes, braid tails, hand paint ponies, etc. Color Camp T-shirts.
3 pm: Activities: Rock climbing, volleyball, badmitton, kids jump course, horse show and water sports.
5 pm: Family pickup
