Last week, there was a party at my farm. It wasn't the first, and it certainly won't be the last. But this one felt different. ❤️
For months, years if we are being honest, I worked my guts out getting that farm ready. In the middle of the party, I found myself looking around at what I've built.
A few years ago, I left a well-paying 9-to-5 to chase a dream of creating self-sufficiency for myself and my community. I had no idea how much that decision would cost me.
There have been financial struggles, dashed hopes, strained relationships, and losses I never saw coming. Nothing has gone according to plan. My business isn't perfect. My farm isn't perfect. Neither am I.
But. You know what has been consistent through all of it?
YOU. My community.
I've led with love as a primary guide, and somehow, that's been enough to keep you all following along. You've shown up, believed in me, and helped turn some pretty wild ideas into something real.
Today, I want to introduce another two people who lead with heart.
If you don't know Jed and Heather Nilson, I feel bad for you.
The Nilson's have consistently supported resources and sufficiency in our community. They don't profit from doing the right thing, and they certainly don't brag about it. They quietly build projects that stand on their own, creating lasting good for the people around them.
Look around Weber County, and you'll find their devotion attached to so much of what makes this community special.
I haven't built Urban Prairie alone. People like the Nilson's have pushed me forward, opened doors, and believed in what we're creating.
Last week's party felt like the culmination of all that partnership. Standing on land that was once an overgrown mess, surrounded by neighbors sharing food, ideas, and hope for our future, I realized something.
This dream isn't just mine anymore. It's becoming something that belongs to all of us.
That party wasn't about celebrating a perfect farm. It was about celebrating what happens when people believe in each other enough to build something together.
