Quite possibly the breakfast sampler plate I've ever had. Seriously. We on the north side of OKC are spoiled to have Press and Plow and Neighborhood Jam right beside each other.

A memorable MLK Day breakfast with friends.

It's only fitting that I had Tamashii right before snow buried us all at home for a few days! Now that the roads are clear, there's no better place to find an elevated childhood classic that'll warm you up. Stay safe and warm, friends! And go get yourself some ramen.

A reliable, warm, grown-up version of a childhood favorite to get you through Oklahoma's cold and windy winters.

2026 started off with a wonderful progressive dinner that started in North OKC and ended in Downtown. On the menu? Red curry shrimp, lamb flatbread, and short rib hummus, to name a few! If you want to know what my favorite appetizer in OKC is, you'll just have to click and read to find out...😏

Hi, I'm Luke! I'm a simple man when it comes to my daily hobbies. I walk, I write, I read my Bible, and I watch movies. And I eat. A lot. If you have to do something several times a day to survive and there’s a whole world of restaurants, dishes, and preparations to try from, you might as well have a good time with it!

Like my hobbies, my intent with this site is simple: Tell whoever wants to listen about the food I eat in Oklahoma City/Central Oklahoma (and, when I’m feeling adventurous, other cities/states/countries). The format will be simple, unlike the recipe blogs where you have to scroll through someone’s life story to get to the dish you want to create! I’ll include a brief intro to the restaurant, the dishes I tried (typically an appetizer, entree, and dessert), the price point(s), and my thoughts. That’s it. Maybe the occasional story about why I love a dish!

For my first entry, read about my favorite meal of 2025 at Birdie's by Chef Kevin Lee, which featured sweet potato burrata, shrimp and grits, and banana pudding!

I look forward to 2026 and all the restaurants - both old and new - I’ll make a stop at over the course of the next year! Oklahoma City is full of talented chefs/restauranteurs, excellent wait staff, and culinary flair. Stick around to find out where you should go for your next progressive dinner with friends, date night, work meeting, or “I know we have a fridge full of groceries, but let’s go try it anyway”! If you like what you read, just put your e-mail in and you'll get future posts whenever they publish.

Till Next Time,
Luke (What I Ate)

P.S. - Big shoutout to Madeline VanDover for the site name. I’m good at eating, not creative name brainstorming!
