So thankful for Megan & her love for locals 🫶🏻
One of my favorite stories I've written for The Write Touch Studio is this one about The Olive Branch Market celebrating one year in its current location.
The angle for this story was the anniversary. That's what made it timely and newsworthy. But the story itself became about so much more than how long the doors had been open.
It was about MaKaylen's faith and the way she trusts God to lead her family and her business. It was about her commitment to her children and making sure her business doesn't come at the expense of her family. It was about investing in other local vendors, supporting local families, and wanting to see her community thrive.
And that's the part I love most about storytelling.
There's a reason a story needs an angle. We need that timely connection, that reason for the story to be told *now*. But what makes someone actually stop and read? What makes them connect with a business owner? What makes them remember that business when they're ready to shop, eat, or spend their money?
It's getting a glimpse of the person behind the business. What they value. What drives them. What they're working toward beyond simply making a sale.
Because people aren't just choosing a business based on what it sells. They're also choosing who they want to support.
That's why I love getting to know the people I write about. The anniversary might get someone to click on the story, but the heart behind the business is what makes the story stick.
