The Crazy Beehive Farm

🦋 We have a butterfly!!! 🦋❤️

Remember those little caterpillars we collected from the garden a while back? Well, today we officially have our first beautiful Black Swallowtail butterfly! 🥰

We’ve watched these little guys go from munching away on our plants to forming their chrysalises, and now one has finally spread its wings!

Sadly, the grandkids weren’t here to see the big moment, but we have pictures and videos to share with them.

It’s pretty amazing watching nature do its thing. From our garden, to a caterpillar, to a butterfly, and now back to nature. Talk about coming full circle! ❤️

Just another little adventure here at The Crazy Beehive Farm! 🐝🌻

😂 Reddy was VERY excited about the hay delivery today! 🌾🐮

First she had to stand on top of her little dirt mound playing King of the Hill 👑😂 — making sure everyone knew who was in charge.

Then the hay showed up and apparently she got the notification that her DoorDash order had arrived. She could barely wait for us to get it in place before coming over to inspect it.

“Yep… just put it right there. I’ll take it from here.” 😂

Just another day at The Crazy Beehive Farm. ❤️🐮🌾

Peaches has officially taken Junebug under her wing… or hoof. 😂🫏

Apparently Junebug has been doing donkey life all wrong, because Peaches wasted NO time teaching her the finer things.

Today’s lesson: proper dirt rolling.

And Junebug is a very quick learner. 🤣❤️

These two together are going to be trouble.

Apparently we’re getting better at this farm thing. 😂

We had our vet visit this past week and everyone got a good report! 🙌

Willie Nelson is making a full recovery from his leg injury and slowly getting back to normal rooster life. 🐓❤️

Ready has decided that head scratches are no longer something we offer. They are something she demands. 😂🐮

Junebug still needs her daily dose of loving, and Peaches has apparently taken responsibility for teaching her all the important donkey skills — including how to get as dirty as humanly… or donkeyly… possible. 🫏😂

The babies are growing up and starting their little standoffs over who is going to be in charge, while the hens have turned egg collecting into a daily Easter egg hunt. 🥚

We also tackled deworming everyone.

There was a plan.

The animals had a different plan.

Things went a little sideways. 😂

But everybody got dewormed, everybody is healthy, and somehow we still haven’t killed anything. 🙌🤣

So naturally, we took that as a sign that we’re ready for more responsibility…

Another cow joins the farm tomorrow. 🐮❤️

Because apparently that’s how this works around here. 😂

Willie Nelson 🐓

A little Willie update ❤️

A couple weeks ago, Willie decided he was done waiting to be let out and jumped from the top of the gate, hurting his leg. 🤦‍♀️

The vet came out today and says he needs a few more weeks of cage rest. Bones take about 4 weeks to heal, then he can start having little supervised outings.

For now, Limpy Willie is getting LOTS of snuggles and taking full advantage of being the spoiled baby of the farm. 😂❤️

He is living his best life inside under mama’s arms. He doesn’t even mind the dogs next to him ❤️

🍑 Well… we did it again. Meet Peaches! 🫏

After bringing Junebug home, we knew pretty quickly that she needed a donkey friend of her own. So when Collinsville Livestock Sales had more minis coming through, I pulled up the online auction and let it play while I worked around the farm.

And let me tell you, bidding online is definitely not as much fun as being there in person. 😂

First come the goats.

Then the sheep.

And more goats.

And more sheep.

Meanwhile, hours of farm chores are getting done while the auction plays in the background. 😂 Feed everybody. Check everybody. Clean this. Haul that. Finish one project and start another… periodically checking the phone to make sure I haven’t missed the donkeys.

By the time the minis finally started coming through, we were fully prepared to bring home a gelding for Junebug.

Then this little gray face popped up on the screen. 🫏

They started out calling her a jack… and then stopped and corrected themselves.

“Correction… Jenny.”

WAIT. WHAT? 👀😂

Suddenly the farm chores could wait.

A little online bidding later and Junebug wasn’t getting a boyfriend after all…

She was getting a girlfriend. ❤️🫏🫏

Everyone meet PEACHES! 🍑

She’s home at The Crazy Beehive Farm now, settling in and getting acquainted with Junebug while the longhorns supervise from next door. Because apparently nothing happens around here without the neighborhood watch knowing about it.

And we’ve officially decided our donkey crew is getting a summer picnic meets the orchard and garden naming vibe. ☀️🧺🍑🍎🍋🌰

So far we have Junebug & Peaches, with Lemonade, Plum, Apple, Pecan and Okra tucked away for someday.

Thanks again to Collinsville Livestock Sales for another sweet addition to this crazy little farm adventure. Next time, though, I think I need the bidder number back in my hand. Online just doesn’t have the same excitement!

Welcome home, Peaches! 🍑🫏❤️
