Fall honey just dropped! Swing by the stand and grab one while they last. The hives have been broken down to just the nests and we will be feeding them to get them ready for the winter. Going in with 6 colonies this year. Fingers crossed they all make it. 🇸🇪 🇳🇴 🇬🇧🇪🇸🇦🇹🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Amber Summer Honey just dropped at the Mel Farms stand. It’s rare that we get a summer harvest but with all the rain the nectar flow never stopped. Honey will have different colors and taste throughout the year base on what flowers the bees are foraging. Spring honey is golden, summer is amber and fall will be very dark. Which one is your favorite? 🌺🌸💐🌷🌻🌼 🐝 🍯

Stand is officially open!!!! The girls have been hard at work. We have had our largest harvest ever, almost 13 gallons. We are short on labels but we will add more to the stand when they arrive. We also added some additional goods this year thanks to flourishing garden. Swing by or reach out if you’re interested.

Went into winter with 6 colonies and came out with 4. Not too bad considering we lost all of them last winter. When it’s above 50 degrees the girls come out to stretch their wings, so they are loving today. March is the toughest month for the bees because they start to get active and food supplies are low. We gave all of them a pile of sugar for their carbohydrates and a pollen party for their protein (their 2 main food groups). They should be good until flowers start to bloom. Also, all 4 queens have started to lay baby bees so heading in the right directions.

The 4 remaining hives are all flying today. We put out some frames from one of the colonies we lost to supplement their food supply. 66 days until spring!! 🤞

The latest addition to Meli Farms. Brazil is a split from the Canadian hive . 🇳🇴🇬🇧🇪🇸🇨🇦🇧🇷🇸🇪 Honey is all sold out for the spring but 🤞for a strong Fall flow.

Spring honey is ready!

It’s not a huge harvest but after having to start over from the hive loss this winter, we are happy to be able to get a little.
Honey Stand will be open once the rain stops.

Hive Update!!
Over the last month we have been in expansion mode and are currently up to 3 colonies. Spain, which was installed in late March has built up nicely and last week we put on the third honey super. The first 2 are full so it looks like we will have a harvest this year. Probably the end of June. Also, we installed a second package in early May and that one is doing great. Since that queen is a different species than what we have used before, that genetic line will be given Western hemisphere country names. This hive will be known as 🇨🇦. Lastly, since Spain has been doing so great, I was able to take a few frames of eggs and make a split. It took about a month for that split to make a new queen but it was successful and she is currently laying eggs. This one will be 🇬🇧. We hope to split Canada in the next couple weeks and keep growing. Stay tuned for the honey stand going up in about a month.
