🇰🇷 1. Bibimbap

Serves: 2

Ingredients
* 2 cups cooked rice
* 200 g thinly sliced beef
* 1 cup spinach
* 1 cup bean sprouts
* ½ carrot, julienned
* ½ zucchini, julienned
* ½ cup shiitake mushrooms, sliced
* 1 egg
* 2 tbsp gochujang
* 1 tbsp soy sauce
* 1 tbsp sesame oil
* 1 tsp minced garlic
* 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
* 1 tsp sugar
* Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Cook the rice and keep warm.
2. Blanch the spinach and bean sprouts separately, then season lightly with sesame oil and salt.
3. Sauté the carrot, zucchini, and mushrooms individually until tender.
4. Cook the beef with soy sauce, garlic, sugar, and a little sesame oil until browned.
5. Fry the egg sunny-side up.
6. Fill a bowl with hot rice.
7. Arrange all vegetables and beef around the rice.
8. Place the fried egg in the center.
9. Add gochujang, sprinkle sesame seeds, and drizzle with sesame oil before mixing everything together.

🥩 2. Bulgogi

Serves: 4

Ingredients
* 500 g thinly sliced beef
* ½ onion, sliced
* 2 green onions, chopped
* 3 cloves garlic, minced
* ¼ cup grated pear
* ¼ cup soy sauce
* 2 tbsp brown sugar
* 1 tbsp sesame oil
* 1 tbsp mirin
* 1 tsp grated ginger
* ½ tsp black pepper
* 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
* Salt to taste

Instructions

1. Mix soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, mirin, pear, garlic, ginger, and black pepper.
2. Add the beef and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat.
4. Cook the beef until browned and caramelized, about 5–7 minutes.
5. Add the onion and cook until softened.
6. Stir in the green onions.
7. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
8. Serve hot with steamed rice and lettuce wraps if desired.

Serves: 4

Ingredients
* 500 g boneless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
* 2 cups chopped cabbage
* ½ carrot, sliced
* ½ sweet potato, thinly sliced
* 1 cup rice cakes (tteok)
* 3 tbsp gochujang
* 2 tbsp soy sauce
* 1 tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
* 1 tbsp brown sugar
* 1 tbsp minced garlic
* 1 tbsp sesame oil
* 1 tsp minced ginger
* 2 green onions, chopped
* Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Mix gochujang, soy sauce, gochugaru, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil.
2. Coat the chicken with the sauce and marinate for 20–30 minutes.
3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
4. Add the chicken and cook for about 5 minutes.
5. Add the sweet potato, carrot, cabbage, and rice cakes.
6. Stir-fry for 10–15 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked and the vegetables are tender.
7. Add the green onions and cook for another minute.
8. Serve immediately with steamed rice.

Can’t decide what to cook? Try these 3 Japanese comfort food classics that everyone loves!

1. Chicken Katsu Curry

Ingredients
* 2 chicken breasts
* 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
* ½ cup all-purpose flour
* 1 egg, beaten
* 1 cup cooked rice
* ½ onion, diced
* 1 carrot, cut into chunks
* 1 potato, cut into chunks
* 2 tbsp Japanese curry roux
* 2 cups water
* 1 tbsp vegetable oil
* Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions
1. Season the chicken with salt and pepper.
2. Coat each chicken breast with flour, dip into the beaten egg, then coat evenly with panko breadcrumbs.
3. Heat oil over medium heat and fry the chicken for 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown and fully cooked. Set aside and slice.
4. In another pan, sauté the onion for 2–3 minutes.
5. Add the carrot and potato and cook for another 3 minutes.
6. Pour in the water and bring to a boil.
7. Simmer for 15–20 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
8. Add the curry roux and stir until completely dissolved and the sauce thickens.
9. Serve the curry over rice and top with sliced chicken katsu.

2. Teriyaki Chicken

Ingredients
* 500 g boneless chicken thighs
* ¼ cup soy sauce
* ¼ cup mirin
* 2 tbsp sake
* 2 tbsp brown sugar
* 2 cloves garlic, minced
* 1 tsp grated ginger
* 1 tbsp vegetable oil
* 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
* 2 green onions, sliced
* Steamed rice, for serving
* Steamed broccoli, for serving

Instructions
1. Mix soy sauce, mirin, sake, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger.
2. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
3. Cook the chicken skin-side down (or smooth side down if skinless) for 5–6 minutes.
4. Flip and cook another 4–5 minutes.
5. Pour the teriyaki sauce into the pan.
6. Simmer for 3–5 minutes, spooning the sauce over the chicken until thick and glossy.
7. Slice the chicken.
8. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions.
9. Serve with steamed rice and broccoli.

3. Gyudon (Beef Rice Bowl)

Ingredients
* 300 g thinly sliced beef
* ½ onion, thinly sliced
* ¼ cup soy sauce
* 2 tbsp mirin
* 2 tbsp sake
* 1 tbsp sugar
* ½ cup water
* 2 cups cooked rice
* Pickled ginger (beni shoga)
* Green onions, sliced
* Shichimi togarashi (optional)
* Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

1. Heat a skillet over medium heat.
2. Add the onion and cook for 2–3 minutes until slightly softened.
3. Add the water, soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar. Stir well.
4. Bring to a gentle simmer.
5. Add the thinly sliced beef and cook for 3–5 minutes until just cooked.
6. Taste and adjust with salt and pepper if needed.
7. Fill serving bowls with hot cooked rice.
8. Spoon the beef and onions over the rice.
9. Garnish with pickled ginger, green onions, and shichimi togarashi if desired.

1. Classic Cheeseburger

Makes 4 burgers

Ingredients

* 500 g ground beef, preferably 80% lean and 20% fat
* 4 hamburger buns
* 4–8 slices American cheese
* 4 lettuce leaves
* 1 large tomato, sliced
* ½ red onion, thinly sliced
* 12 pickle slices
* 4 tbsp mayonnaise
* 4 tbsp ketchup
* 2 tbsp yellow mustard
* 1 tsp salt
* ½ tsp black pepper
* 1 tbsp cooking oil, if needed

Steps

1. Divide the beef into four equal portions and form patties slightly wider than the buns.
2. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.
3. Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat.
4. Cook the patties for 3–4 minutes per side, or until cooked to your preferred doneness.
5. Place cheese on each patty during the final minute and cover briefly to melt.
6. Toast the cut sides of the buns for 1–2 minutes.
7. Spread mayonnaise on the bottom buns.
8. Add lettuce, tomato, the cheeseburger patty, onion and pickles.
9. Finish with ketchup and mustard, then cover with the top bun.



2. BBQ Pork Ribs

Serves 4–6

Ingredients

* 1.5–2 kg baby back pork ribs
* 1 cup BBQ sauce
* 3 tbsp brown sugar
* 1½ tsp salt
* 1 tsp garlic powder
* 1 tsp onion powder
* 1 tsp paprika
* ½ tsp black pepper
* 2 tbsp apple juice or water
* 1 tbsp oil

Steps

1. Preheat the oven to 150°C or 300°F.
2. Remove the thin membrane from the back of the ribs.
3. Mix brown sugar, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika and black pepper.
4. Rub the ribs lightly with oil, then coat them with the seasoning mixture.
5. Wrap tightly in foil and place on a baking tray.
6. Bake for 2½–3 hours until very tender.
7. Mix the BBQ sauce with apple juice or water.
8. Unwrap the ribs and brush them generously with the sauce.
9. Increase the oven to 220°C or 425°F.
10. Bake uncovered for 10–15 minutes, brushing with more sauce halfway through.
11. Rest for 10 minutes before slicing.



3. Mac and Cheese

Serves 4–6

Ingredients

* 300 g elbow macaroni
* 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
* 1 can evaporated milk, approximately 354 ml
* 3 tbsp butter
* ½ tsp salt
* ¼ tsp black pepper
* ½ tsp paprika, optional
* ½ cup breadcrumbs, optional
* 1 tbsp melted butter for the breadcrumbs, optional

Steps

1. Boil the macaroni in salted water until just tender, following the package directions.
2. Drain the macaroni and set it aside.
3. Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat.
4. Add the evaporated milk and warm it gently without boiling.
5. Add the cheddar cheese one handful at a time, stirring until smooth.
6. Season with salt, black pepper and paprika.
7. Add the cooked macaroni and mix until fully coated.
8. Serve immediately for creamy stovetop mac and cheese.
9. For baked mac and cheese, transfer it to a baking dish.
10. Mix breadcrumbs with 1 tablespoon melted butter and sprinkle them on top.
11. Bake at 190°C or 375°F for 15–20 minutes, until golden and bubbling.
