Not that I’m complaining but man I can’t stay focused with these cuties around! All the babies LOVE to climb on my equipment and peck at the shiny things. So adorable but I can’t work!!!🫣😅🫠🥹

The poultry industry was well represented at several state booths during the Great American State Fair! 🐓🇺🇸

This weekend, I traveled to Washington, D.C. to celebrate the Fourth of July and experience the nation’s 250th anniversary festivities. While exploring the state exhibits at the Great American State Fair, I was excited to see poultry production highlighted in several booths.

Georgia, Alabama, and Nebraska all featured displays showcasing the poultry industry, including both commercial production and exhibition poultry. As a Poultry Science student, it was encouraging to see an industry that plays such a vital role in feeding our communities being recognized and shared with the public. Events like these help connect consumers with agriculture and provide an opportunity to learn more about where their food comes from.

It was an incredible experience to be in D.C. for the big 250 celebration. Hopefully I’ll make it back in 50 years for the 300th! 🇺🇸✨

One month officially completed!! 🎉
I’ve already learned so much, and I’m excited to continue learning throughout the rest of my internship. Over the past month, I’ve had the opportunity to visit several farms alongside different flock advisors, where I’ve learned how to perform bird weights, head counts, gait scores, feed inventory checks, generator tests, and much more.
One of the coolest parts of this experience has been getting to see chickens at every stage of growth, from chicks freshly out of the egg at the hatchery to 7-week-old birds being prepared for hand-off to the plant. It’s been incredible to see the entire production process come together and gain a better understanding of each stage.
I also spent a week visiting several of Perdue’s hatcheries across North and South Carolina, where I gained valuable insight into the hatchery side of the operation. Along the way, I’ve had the chance to meet some of the LMTs at the feed mill and other complexes, which has been a great experience.
I’ve also begun working on my summer project, which focuses on helping determine the optimal temperature settings for the new placement trucks my complex is implementing.
Additionally, I got the chance to attend 2 conferences representing Perdue alongside individuals from other poultry companies.
It’s hard to believe there’s only a month and a half left. I know I’m going to be sad when the summer comes to an end, but I’m looking forward to making the most of every opportunity these next few weeks have to offer!

Tour photos from my week of intern training in Salisbury, MD! ✈️🐓
Last week, I officially began my summer internship with Perdue Farms. Interns from across the country traveled to the company’s headquarters in Salisbury for onboarding, training sessions, facility tours, and presentations from leaders across the organization.
One of the highlights of the week was having the opportunity to meet the CEO and Board Chairman while learning more about the company’s operations and values. I’m grateful for the experience, the new connections, and all the knowledge shared by our guest speakers. Looking forward to continuing to learn and grow this summer!

Mid FL Poultry Association!!
This year I got to judge the intermediate class of showmen and let me tell yall these kids know it all. It was the biggest class of showmanship we had, and there was some really close scores. It truly came down to the little details throughout all of showmanship. I had so much fun and got to speak with all my poultry folks! Thank you so much John Harvey for having me again, and Heather Johnson Angie Johnson for reaching out :)

I’m thrilled to announce that I have officially accepted an internship position with Perdue Farms as one of their Live Operations interns for Summer 2026!!

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Colton Schweiger for recognizing my potential and providing me with this opportunity and to Jesse E. Sheppard for a positive interview experience. I look forward to gaining valuable experience and am excited to contribute to the team.
