Ribbon Cliff Vineyard

Ribbon Cliff Vineyard Ribbon Cliff Vineyard is in Washington State where unique climate, soil and physical features distinguish it from anywhere else.

Ribbon Cliff Vineyard is part of the Columbia Valley AVA. Varietal typicity and pure fruit aromas and flavors are the hallmarks of wine from the Columbia Valley. We are located on the Columbia River between Wenatchee and Lake Chelan, Washington. Across the river is the Historic Landmark Ribbon Cliff "Earthquake Point". This high level earthquake hit in December, 1872 and deposited enough rock and

boulders below to dam the Columbia River for a period of time. The black ribbons of the cliff are lava-filled fissures. The relationship to the Missoula Floods, a series of cataclysmic events, defines the soil types of the vineyards in Washington. Ribbon Cliff Vineyard lies below the floodwaters with soils of loess—wind blown deposits of sand and silt—overlying gravel and slackwater sediment with basalt forming the bedrock. This provides a diversity of soil types that are well drained and ideal for viticulture. This region has an arid and semi-arid, continental climate, receiving an average of 6–8 inches (15–20 cm) of precipitation annually. Irrigation, along with consistently warm, dry temperatures during the growing season, provides us with a large amount of control over grape development compared to many other regions of the world. This leads to minimal vintage variation and consistently high-quality wines.
