Farming is hard. I can’t say how many times I’ve thrown around the idea of selling out this year. I’ve spent a lot of time this year trying to grow into being a contract farmer. I know this may disappoint a lot of people who purchase direct from me. All I can say is I’m only one person. I have a wonderful team, but when it comes down to managing, planning, marketing, problem solving, etc that’s all on me. So please bear with me while the farm grows into what I need it to be for me.

I’ll be honest. Due to lack of time for putting up fencing and lack of rain, the brood cows and ewes are on a sacrifice lot bale grazing. Is this ideal? Not even close. But they are fed and happy.

I take pink eye pretty seriously around here. This year has been the worst I’ve seen it. I think we have treated at least 7 of my cows and calves for it. Treatment includes antibiotics prescribed by the vet. In severe cases the cows get a patch to help shield the eye from sunlight, scrapes, and flies. Apricot has been a good sport about it. If not treated properly pinkeye can cause permanent damage and blindness.
