The white wonder German millet is looking really good! Hopefully the weather cooperates to get it dried down and baled in a timely matter!

Muscovy ducks do an amazing job at keeping our fly population under control! One major challenge of a livestock confinement is the amount of flies that are attracted here. We never had great success with spraying the flies and didn’t like the idea of all the chemicals around the sheep feed and baby lambs.
This year Shepherd’s Hill purchased 26 Muscovy ducks to experiment with pest control. So far, it has been impressive with how much of a difference a small flock of Muscovy ducks can make. This video was taken in a small breeding pen set up for 10 hens and the largest 4 males (which weighed 12-13 lbs by 4 months old). The hens just started laying eggs so hopefully will have baby ducks hatching in 6 weeks or so!
If you look back to previous videos posted with the sheep, you will notice some ducks among the ewes with lambs. The 2 species seem to work well together.
