A little white wine, cast iron on the stove, and a bowl of simple shrimp scampi — the sort of supper that feels effortlessly elegant without trying too hard.

Cooking at home has never been about perfection. It’s about wooden spoons worn smooth with use, recipes made from memory, and meals shared slowly at the kitchen counter while the wine breathes nearby.

Tonight’s comfort: tender shrimp, ribbons of pasta, garlic, butter, cracked pepper, and the kind of quiet evening that reminds you home can feel luxurious too. ✨🍷

Spring morning sunrise hits a little different when you discover you have a patch of purple irises growing.

I keep finding different flowers and blooms in our yard. Seeing these purple irises this morning hit in a way I wasn’t expecting. My late mother’s favorite flower was purple irises. Seeing them spring up in this corner of our new backyard seems to be a little nod from her.

I can’t wait to get more of my own plants planted and have this backyard as our own little garden oasis. From veggie and fruit plants to all the gorgeous flowers. 🪻🌺🌷💐

Is there a certain plant/flower you have or want in your backyard?

Backyard finds…

Moved in during the transition from fall to winter, and now the backyard is telling its story 💜

Tucked along the fence, these stunning purple clematis blooms are making their way toward the sun—like they’ve been patiently waiting to be noticed. There’s something so special about discovering what was planted before you arrived… a quiet kind of welcome from the past.

Little surprises like this reminding me that beauty was already here—we just get to nurture it and add to it🌿

What hidden gems have you found in your backyard?

The bar with many names… but I call them chess squares.

I love the slight crisp of the top and the smooth center , and the tender crust. These are delicious. Can only eat one since it’s loaded with sugar but they are delicious

Snapshot of one of the many catering events I do at work.

This one in particular was originally organized for late January but the ice storm pushed it to today. Glad it was still a little chilly outside for the soup and bread bowls.

65 people. Had choice of Chili, Broccoli & Cheese Soup, and a Loaded Potato Soup. Had all the toppings from sour cream, shredded cheddar, bacon, and chives.

Also had a fruit and platter and a platter with pimento cheese, mini croissants, crackers. 4 different cakes (strawberry, banana, red velvet, and caramel)

Land & Stream

Grilled pork tenderloin, oven roasted salmon, with roasted marble potatoes tossed in bacon fat, salt and mixed herbs, and roasted brussel sprouts also tossed in bacon fat and mixed herbs and Celtic salt.

Salmon was prepared with lemon zest, cracked pink peppercorns, and thyme with a little Celtic salt. Roasted in the oven for 8 minutes with an internal temp of 120°F then held in a 175°F warmer till serving. Salmon should be between 125°F - 130°F when serving.

The pork tenderloin was prepared with salt, pepper, and seasoning mix called Greek Freak. Cooked on a grill till internal temp reached 145°F.

The marbled potatoes and brussel sprouts were both prepared by tossing in bacon fat and seasoned with Celtic salt, thyme, ground coriander seeds, black pepper, onion and garlic powder. Roasted in the oven till potatoes were fork tende, and the brussel sprouts has some crisp leaves and fork tender hearts.

Mmmm brownies 🤤

These chocolate and butterscotch chipped brownies were a hit and were gluten free. I have a lot of requests for gluten free meals and desserts in the catering that I do at work. I don’t find it difficult to make things gluten free. That might stem from having a general knowledge of what contains gluten and what it derives from.

Turkey on marble rye with citrus and basil mayo, tomato and red onion mix, spinach, and provolone cheese. House made cajun kettle chips, homemade peanut butter cookies.

Definitely back into the swing of things with caterings at work. This was from a small 15 person catering and they always want a sandwich of some kind. Since being back from maternity leave I’ve had to deal with a week long ice/snow storm, and a handful of caterings and last minute morale boosting treats.
Now I just need to find the time to do all the paperwork and be home with my little family 😬🫠

Nothing like a fajita facial in the morning…

Fajita Bar for a catering yesterday consisted of fajita chicken, fajita beef, refried beans, Mexican street corn, and some Mexican rice. Of course I I had some of the cold sides of cilantro, limes, cheese, guacamole, and sour cream. Nothing was left
