🥩Direct-to-consumer beef is more than retail; it is building trust with those in the community. 🥩

✔At Palatka Cattle, we love to share facts about stewardship that make you feel more connected to our family ranch. ✔

1️⃣One simple section is why we choose to offer our cattle free-choice grain while on pasture. As many of you know, Florida has a unique climate in many aspects of soil, salt, and water. 1️⃣

⁉Did you know that in Florida, we primarily grow Bahai grasses, which grow lush in the summers! This grass, even when it is nutritious, is only 5-7% Protein.

🐂The cow is unique in that it has a rumen, rather than a simple stomach. This rumen is filled with microscopic organisms, commonly referred to as rumen bugs. These rumen bugs require 8% protein to remain healthy and functional. This means that without heavy chemical fertilizers, the natural grass does not often contain enough protein to support growing cattle.

🌿This requires the supplementation of protein. There are many methods of protein support, including the use of non-protein nitrogen. We opt for a more natural route. We use a custom blend of grains, minerals, and molasses to support the needs of our cattle and keep them healthy. Stewardship of animals is the most important part of ranching, and we choose to remain natural but ensure our cattle are healthy.

🥩✔The simple fact is that without some sort of protein support, cattle won't remain a healthy local food source. Healthy livestock creates healthy beef!
