🌲Updates from the tree field🌲

This week we feel like we are FINALLY past the risk of frost. Unfortunately, we did have some minor damage due to a few late frosts, but we are hoping the trees will recover throughout the season.

This time of year our trees are busy growing, especially our spruce and white pines. The new growth is soft and brighter in color. Once they are done growing for the year, we have to shear the new growth to give them the ideal Christmas tree shape.

Does anyone prefer blue spruce for their Christmas tree❓️

"If I just buy one tractor..."

To continue celebrating our 30th anniversary, we thought we would share some more photos 30 years apart and the stories that go with them.

In 1996, Bill and Toni bought the land with a plan to build a house, start a family, and rent out the tillable land. What Issacsen Farms is today was never the plan. They started out by borrowing Uncle Donny's tractor to take down the old house and all of the boxelder trees that had grown up around the property.

Isaacsen Farms started all because Bill said "I think I could make more money off of the land we rent out, if I just buy one tractor and work it myself." Our first tractor and skidloader were purchased from our neighbors and we still use them today. From there, he said "I just want to pasture some land and raise a couple of steers for our freezer." 30 years later we are raising about 20 steers a year and have sold beef to over 100 customers!

Happy Mother's day to all the moms out there, but especially Toni!

Toni helped start the farm back in 1996, and has put up with the rest of the family's shenanigans ever since to help it grow. She does all of the bookkeeping, and in the summers you can find her tedding hay, driving truck, and shearing Christmas trees. On top of all of that, she manages to still find the time to make sure everyone is fed either in the field or around the dining room table.

We are beyond grateful for our mom / mother-in-law, Toni!

Any guesses when we might start cutting first crop? 🤔

🌲A little tree update for you🌲

This year we started to notice some cones in our tree field. Cones are a result of the tree going through some type of environmental stress the year before. The cones take a lot of energy to grow so by removing them we help the tree focus on growing fuller and taller instead!

As you can see, we have very precise and careful cone removal techniques.
