🍷 THIS WEEK’S TASTING: START WITH BUBBLES, END IN THE GARAGE

The backpacks are packed. The alarms are set. The school-zone traffic is back. And somewhere, a teenager has already announced that they “need a poster board tomorrow.”

Yep. It’s the first week of school.

Whether you’re a parent celebrating a quiet house, a teacher wondering what happened to summer, or you don’t have kids and are just wondering why Target looks like it was hit by a tornado — we have wine.

This week we’re taking you from Oregon to Washington, making a quick trip to France, and then coming right back home to the Yakima Valley.

As always, there’s a method to the madness. Here’s how we’re pouring them:

🥂 Sokol Blosser Bluebird Sparkling Cuvée — Willamette Valley, Oregon
We’re starting with bubbles because…well, bubbles. Bright, refreshing and loaded with lively bubbles, crisp citrus and orchard fruit. This is the wine that turns “I’ll just have one glass” into “okay, maybe we stay a little longer.”

🥂 Kiona Riesling — Columbia Valley, Washington
Next up, a little hometown Washington juice. Riesling continues to be one of the most misunderstood grapes out there, but trust us when it’s good it’s good good! So come taste it before telling us you don’t like Riesling. You may surprise yourself.

🥂 Above the Curve Old Vine Sémillon 2018 — Yakima Valley, Washington
Now things get interesting. An eight-year-old Washington Sémillon isn’t something you get poured every day. This is exactly why we do these tastings—sometimes the fun is getting outside the usual Chardonnay/Sauvignon Blanc routine.

🍷 Jean-François Mérieau “Cent Visages” Côt 2019 — Touraine, France
What the heck is Côt? Malbec. Just not the big Argentine Malbec you might be expecting. This lighter French version gives you cherry-candy fruit, cigar notes and just a touch of dryness on the finish. Emily’s official review on our website? “Would drink again!” Hard to argue with that.

🍷 Garage “Socket” Syrah 2022 — Yakima Valley, Washington
And then we finish where we should—with Syrah from our own backyard. Produced and bottled by Whitman Hill Winery in Zillah, this is the biggest red of the tasting and exactly where we want to land after working our way through this lineup.

Bubbles → Riesling → Sémillon → Côt → Syrah

Five wines. Three regions. Two countries. And probably at least one wine you’ve never tried before.

That’s the point.

Come hang out with your friendly neighborhood wine nerds, taste some juice and find out what you actually like. No wine snobbery necessary. 🍷

🍷 WELL… that didn’t last long! 😂

You all apparently had some feelings about that 2011 Villa Puccini Toscana because we SOLD OUT!

So we’re making a little substitution in today’s lineup and keeping Italy represented with something pretty fun:

🇮🇹 2024 Marchesi di Grésy Barbera d’Asti — Piedmont, Italy

Barbera is one of those grapes we love introducing people to. Expect bright red cherry and raspberry fruit, lively acidity, subtle spice and relatively soft tannins. It’s juicy, fresh and incredibly food-friendly—a very different Italian experience from the Villa Puccini, but a great addition to this lineup.

So here’s the UPDATED tasting order:

🥂 Quinta de Chocapalha Arinto Branco 2019 — Portugal
Bright, lemony, silky and lush with refreshing acidity.

🥂 Estate Argyros Atlantis White 2019 — Greece
Balanced and refreshing with ripe fruit, floral character and a crisp finish.

🍷 NEW! Marchesi di Grésy Barbera d’Asti 2024 — Piedmont, Italy
Fresh red fruit, bright acidity, soft tannins and just enough spice. If you’ve never had Barbera, here’s your chance.

🍷 Lobo Hills Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 — Washington
We finish the dry wines with Washington muscle—darker fruit, bigger structure and that Cabernet personality.

🌸 Bellafina Pink Moscato
And THEN we get sweet. Fruity, fun and the perfect way to finish.

Arinto ➡️ Atlantis ➡️ Barbera d’Asti ➡️ Lobo Hills Cab ➡️ Pink Moscato

And apparently we need to say this now:

If there’s one you really want to try… don’t wait too long. 😂🍷

🍷 We’re digging into the cellar at C D Little Wine Shop!

Sometimes the fun of wine isn’t chasing the newest vintage—it’s pulling out a few bottles, lining them up, and seeing what time has done to the juice.

Today’s little wine adventure takes us from Portugal and Greece to Tuscany and Washington, with something pink and sweet waiting at the finish line.

🥂 Quinta de Chocapalha Arinto Branco 2019 — Portugal
We’re starting bright. Think Sauvignon Blanc’s more subtle and complex cousin: lemony, silky and lush, with enough tartness to make it a killer food wine while still being perfectly happy hanging out in your glass all by itself.

🥂 Estate Argyros Atlantis White 2019 — Greece
This little Greek beauty is all about balance. Honeysuckle color, a pleasant touch of sweetness and enough crispness to keep everything refreshing. Simple in the best possible way and absolutely built for sipping cold.

🍷 Villa Puccini Toscana 2011 — Tuscany
Now we’re getting interesting. Warm cherry, soft plum and a little spice wrapped in an easy-drinking Tuscan style. But this bottle has been hanging around since 2011, so we get to find out what 15 years has done to it. This is why we love opening old bottles—sometimes they reward you, sometimes they teach you something. Either way, you get wine.

🍷 Lobo Hills Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 — Washington
Time to bring some Washington muscle into the glass. We’re saving the Cab for the end of the dry wines where its bigger structure and darker fruit can do its thing without beating up everything that came before it.

🌸 Bellafina Pink Moscato
And THEN we get sweet. Pink Moscato gets the last word because once you go sweet, going back to dry wine is just mean to your palate. Fruity, easy and a fun way to finish the lineup.

Our tasting order:
Chocapalha ➡️ Atlantis ➡️ Villa Puccini ➡️ Lobo Hills ➡️ Bellafina

Five bottles. Five very different personalities. A couple with some serious age on them.

No scores. No pretending there’s a “right” answer.

Drink what you love. Find your flavor. 🍷
