The vineyard is buzzing this month - we’re tending the vines with wire lifting, shoot tucking, and leaf and lateral removal to open up the fruit zones. Most of our varieties are in full bloom right now, moving along beautifully in their reproductive cycle.

And the highlight of the week: we have fruit set in our Syrah block! 🍇

Early April at Kiler Canyon Vineyard, and the vines are off to a strong start. Bud break arrived nearly two weeks ahead of schedule this year, and since our pruning and tying work in early March, we’ve seen vigorous shoot growth across the block. We recently spread compost beneath the vines to build soil carbon and improve soil health, and now shoot thinning and undervine cultivation are underway. Lots of hands (and tractors) in the vineyard this time of year.

Meet our new Assistant Tasting Room Manager, Jonathan Bell. After 25+ years in tech, he’s back in wine where he first got his start, helping his family build Lewis Cellars in Napa Valley. He brings hands on experience and a builder’s mindset in Kiler Canyon’s first year in Tin City.

Outside the winery, Jonathan enjoys jazz, plays several instruments, and even composes some of his own music. He also happens to love Syrah, a Kiler Canyon hallmark. If you’re in Tin City soon, stop by and say hello.
