Meet the new owners!
🍭 Meet the Owners: Amie & Rick 🍭
For Amie and Rick, becoming the owners of Sweet Street is about so much more than candy. It’s about family, community, childhood memories, and making sure a place that has brought so much joy to generations of families continues doing just that for many years to come.
Amie has been a lifelong resident of the area, and chances are, you’ve crossed paths with her somewhere along the way! You may have seen her on any given baseball diamond or sports field, working as a paraprofessional in a local school district, or simply lending a hand somewhere in the community.
Rick is originally from Downers Grove and graduated from Indiana University — and yes, apparently it’s a FOOTBALL SCHOOL now! 🏈 Rick is a pilot and also serves as Vice President of his fourth-generation, family-owned business, Peterson Electric Panel. Family business is quite literally in his blood, making this new adventure together even more special.
Together, we have five kids: Easton (24), Donnie (21), Declan (16), Maggie (14), and Penny (8) — plus our beloved Mini Aussie, Knox, who is 11 months old and keeps all of us on our toes!
As a family, we absolutely love to travel. We’ve been fortunate enough to visit many countries around the world, experiencing different cultures and traditions along the way. And wherever we go, you can pretty much guarantee we’re searching out two things: the local CANDY and coffee! 🍬☕
But our love for Sweet Street started long before we ever dreamed we would own it.
Amie was just 11 years old when Sweet Street first opened its doors. Some of her favorite core childhood memories include trips to Sweet Street — the excitement of walking through the door, picking out something special, and experiencing that little bit of magic that only a candy store can create.
As she grew up, she passed that same love for Sweet Street on to her own children…and eventually Rick, too!
When the opportunity came to become part of Sweet Street’s story, it felt incredibly special. We simply couldn’t imagine Bourbonnais — the community we chose to raise our family in — without Sweet Street.
We are beyond proud and honored to be the new owners of a place that has meant so much to our family and to so many others.
Most of all, we understand that when you walk through our doors, you’re not just buying candy. You’re bringing your kids and grandkids to a place they may remember for the rest of their lives. You’re continuing traditions, celebrating milestones, picking out special treats, and creating those wonderfully simple childhood memories that somehow become the ones we treasure most.
Thank you for trusting our family with a place that holds so many of your family’s memories.
We can’t wait to honor everything that has made Sweet Street special while creating a whole lot of new memories — and serving the community we are so proud to call home for many, many years to come.
With love (and plenty of sugar!),
Amie & Rick
