Remember how we said we were trying something new this season?

Well here it is!

After an extremely dry spring that led to a failed spring seeding of orchardgrass, we decided to sow teff grass this summer. Since it was sown the first week of June we’ve had all kinds of rain! Floods included!!

Here’s to hoping we can get a nice dry window to get back into the fields this week and start making hay again!

It’s that time of year where we’re late getting in from the farm and looking for something quick to make for dinner. The jalapeño and cheddar lamb brats are a great way to switch it up! Throw them on the grill with peppers and onions, throw some sweet relish on them, and they’re hard to beat!

Hi friends! It’s been awhile since we’ve posted here.. needless to say it’s been a busy spring and start to summer!

We kicked off the spring with a very successful lambing season in April. We brought in new genetics with a Katahdin/Australian White crossbred ram and could see the results immediately compared to the lambs sired by our white dorper ram. We’re excited to see these guys and gals continue to develop in the coming months! Lambing season is busy but it’s one of our favorite times of the year!

Along with lambing season was all the prep that goes into preparing for summer. From prepping fields for new seedings to shop work.

Mums are potted and off to a strong start! Stay tuned to see where you can get your Granny Gert & Son’s mums this fall!

After finally catching some much needed rain to wrap up May, we started on our first cutting of hay. While the yields aren’t quite where we like to see them due to one of the driest springs on record, the quality of hay was exceptional. The late rain really helped! We have mixed grass square bales and alfalfa/orchardgrass square bales for sale!

To wrap up this past week we tried something new! After we finished baling hay for the week we sowed teff grass on a new piece of ground! Just in time to beat the rain! 🤞🏼 Teff grass is a warm season annual that we will be able bale for square bales and round bales later this summer.

If we weren’t busy enough… on top of all this we’ve been remodeling a house. We’re nearing the finish line on it but during this time of the year the work for it is reserved for rainy days!

Stay tuned for updates throughout the summer!

Still needing a Valentine’s Day dinner option? ❤️ Why not try lamb at home? We still have a few lamb cuts available!

One of our favorite ways to cook lollipop chops is grilled or seared in a cast iron skillet with a sriracha mayo marinade -quick, easy, and absolutely delicious. The slight heat paired with the richness of the lamb makes for a meal that feels special without being complicated.

We also love keeping it classic with traditional seasonings like thyme, rosemary, and garlic, you just can’t go wrong with those timeless flavors. But if you’re feeling adventurous, the sriracha mayo version is a fun and flavorful twist.

Message us to reserve your cuts before they’re gone!

This little warm-up in temperatures has us dreaming of spring even more.
Seed starting for early summer flowers and veggies is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to get our hands back in the soil.
If these blooms and fresh veggies don’t get you excited for growing season, we don’t know what will!

Hey! We’re so happy you’re here and excited to share our journey with you.

I&K Farms is a family farm run by yours truly—Isaac and Korri. We both had the privilege of growing up on our family farms, where our love for agriculture was first cultivated.

We’re high school sweethearts, proud graduates of the University of Kentucky, and we moved back home to start a farm of our own—building a life and legacy for our family.

We have added another “K” to the farm! Our little boy, Kolton, will be a frequent flyer around here, and he already loves every part of farm life just as much as we do.

We can’t wait to bring you along on this journey with us.

Tell us in the comments a little about yourself and what you’re most excited to learn or see on our farm!

We’re Jacob and Hunter-Anne — the J & H behind J & H Mattingly Farm. As a first-generation operation, we’re proud to be building something of our own, grounded in hard work, stewardship, and a love for agriculture.
While this is our first farm together, agriculture has always been part of our story. Jacob grew up working on his family’s farm in Rhodelia, KY, as well as helping other local farmers. Through that experience, he developed a passion for hay production, specializing in small square bales for the horse industry, and later added hair sheep to the operation. Hunter-Anne was raised on a farm in Owensboro, KY and brings her love and knowledge of flowers, produce, and livestock to the farm.
Together, we’re committed to being good stewards of the land, raising quality products, and supporting our local community. We look forward to serving our community for years to come and are so excited to take y’all along on this adventure with us. Thank you for supporting our family farm, we can’t wait to grow with you.
