LOOK UP TONIGHT! The Northern Lights may be visible across a good portion of the U.S. tonight into early Friday morning because the Sun has been unusually active this week. Several powerful solar eruptions - known as coronal mass ejections [CMEs] - were launched toward Earth following a series of strong solar flares from an active sunspot region. As these CMEs reach Earth tonight, they will interact with the Planet's magnetic field, triggering a geomagnetic storm and increasing the likelihood of aurora activity - NORTHERN LIGHTS! NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a G3 [Strong] Geomagnetic Storm Watch with the potential for G4 conditions realized. The states with the best chance to see the Northern Lights include Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, New England and Alaska under G3 conditions. If G4 conditions are observed, northern lights will be possible down to Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee and North Carolina. Enjoy!
