Thank you all for such an amazing Berry Day!
Here are some storage tips to keep them fresh longer:
β€οΈ Keep strawberries cold to extend their shelf life. Store them in the fridge with a light covering of foil or on a screen porch if temperatures range between 34-40Β°F.
β€οΈ Avoid washing berries until you're ready to eat or use them. Washing them in advance can speed up spoilage.
β€οΈ Remove any molded berries promptly to prevent the spread of mold, which can happen quickly.
For freezing, here are the best methods:
βοΈ Wash, hull, and slice strawberries. Add sugar (up to 1/2 cup per pint), stir, and place in freezer bags. This method is perfect for making strawberry pie, topping ice cream and cereal, cobblers, and more.
βοΈ Wash, hull, and spread strawberries on a cookie sheet. Freeze until solid, then transfer them to a large freezer bag. This method is ideal for smoothies because you can easily grab just the amount you need.
