Well, folks.... I did it.
I have successfully changed career paths.... well kinda sorta.... I have traded the commercial kitchen, fast-paced, industry chef life for....
A classroom....
With 6 kitchens and 5 classes of Culinary I and one of Culinary II....Yes, you read that right, I have spent the last 10 months teaching culinary at Escambia High School!!! And to say that this has been the hardest thing I have ever done, would absolutely be an understatement. However, I will say that has 100% been the most rewarding!!
I quickly had to figure out how to manage a classroom, establish procedures, and daily lesson plan, not to mention a lot of days not lesson planning and just winging it, to the demos, labs, quizzes...
And all of it led to 56 industry level certifications, like ServSafe Manager and NRFSP (National Registry of Foodservice Professionals) earned between all grade levels but mine were mainly freshman. Also, I am proud to say that I will be returning in August to do it again!
But... I am ready for the summer for sure!
With the school year coming to an end, I am going to have time to help with any of your catering or private chef needs over the summer.
