Shiloh didn’t even tell me she wanted to donate her money, and man did I cry some proud mama tears when she handed me back her wad of profit cash and told me to give it to Isaiah 117 House 💛 I decided to donate the money she paid me back for materials she used, making it a $126 donation.
I was explaining to Shiloh how Isaiah 117 House works last week, telling her how when I entered foster care I was taken for a medical evaluation and I was picked up from the hospital by foster parents. I had no belongings. I came home with nothing but the clothes on my back (a dress donated to me by the hospital so that I didn’t have to come home in just a diaper). But we talked about how now that Lucas Co has this house, kids entering foster care can go hang out in the house, or even sleep there if entering care overnight, INSTEAD of being transported to a hospital or police station. The kids can watch TV, eat a good meal, play with toys, and just hang out like kids while social workers do the paperwork and phone calls. They are given clothes, shoes, or whatever is needed. I even heard of a child who entered care on their birthday and the Isaiah 117 House volunteers threw a birthday party with cake and gifts on a two hour notice. Their compassion and dedication makes a HUGE impact on children entering care by reducing trauma and easing a painful transition.
There aren’t words enough to describe how proud I am of my girl. I was so surprised by her generosity, but I should have known she would think of something else to do with the money…this is SHILOH we are talking about. (Ask her about her dreams of running a homeless shelter one day….)
