Announcement -

we have decided to take things on a different route and will be selling off a very good portion of our laying flock.

all of our colored layers will be available for new flocks.

there is a 2 bird minimum - these girls are pets to me and i wish them an easy transition into their new flocks, more than one bird creates a buddy system for support and protection.

breeds - Easter Egger, Welsummer, fibro olive egger, olive egger, midnight egger, speckled sage layers.

i have too many chickens and too many breeds to keep in line. in a perfect world, i’d have the biggest pole barn full of breeding pens and coops galore.

rather, i will be working with ONLY 4 breeds -

• SHOW QUALITY Heritage Plymouth Barred Rock - excellent bloodline
• Blue/Black Swedish duck
• Black Spanish Turkey
• Silkies

all available birds will be pick up only, please bring appropriate transport cages.

I thought I’d share this because I think it’s fantastic!

Martha Stewart is no stranger to poultry shows and often purchases show quality birds for her flock. Look at how gorgeous that Cochin Roo is!

This just further fuels my Martha obsession lol

The gentleman is also a well decorated breeder with some of the prettiest birds.

First egg oddity of the new year.

I haven’t posted any egg photos in a hot minute. Upon collection, this one demanded its own post.

Wrinkly eggs - they look funny, but 100% normal.

Wrinkly shells can happen for a couple of reasons, all of which are just apart of chickening. From old age to viral infections.

By looking at this egg, I know that it was laid by one of our Easter Eggers. The majority of my Easter Eggers are over 4 years of age. That’s old for a laying hen. Since I know that my birds aren’t ill, this wrinkly egg is due to the combination of old age and her getting a head start on the laying season, this egg is more than likely one of her first eggs of the year and she’s just working out the kinks from her Fall molt.

Some chicken knowledge for ya folks.

Jilly is just so darn perfect & gorgeous!

Her sister, Sally, is currently sitting on a clutch of eggs that we found in some brush and we have her and her eggs moved to a safe place.

I’m super excited to see how many baby turks her and Russel produce - lord knows, I don’t need anymore birds..

We will have Turkey poults soon and will be raising a couple to dress out.

Depending on how this “trial” goes, we hope to offer home raised holiday meats for the 2022 year.

- Banana Peppers (from my mom)
- Greek Pepperoncinis
- Royal green beaners
- Mini Bells

I probably won’t be pickling the Mini Bells, I like snacking on them!

I’ve never pickled beans before but I know others that love them!

The peppers, my mouth is drooling just thinking about pickling those bad boys! I eat peppers by the jar full! SO good!!

Sally girl is SO happy! I was wondering why we were finding flower bulbs in the side yard! I’m glad that I already deemed the flower bed on the side of the garage the community dusting buffet! All that grows in this flower bed is my Rose of Sharon, the chickens have destroyed everything else!

We brought home two Turkey hens, yesterday, to help Russel cope with losing his bonded brother, Chris.

Russ and the girls couldn’t care less about each other. I’m sure that will change with time.

I watched her chase a hen out of the box and just wanted see what she was going to do next, sure enough, she MADE herself fit lol and I was right there for a rescue because there was no way she was hopping out on her own without hurting herself.

Looks like I’ll be building a Turkey box, today!

We’ve never had to have one since we only had the Turkey boys around.

Also, these girls are sisters by blood. Naturally, I had to give them pairing names and who can guess the reference? - Sally&Gilly

Russle and Chris - 3-4 months old

Anyone else feel like their world around them is slowly crumbling? Like since January? Every month it’s something else. I’m tired. This is my towel.

We moved out to this gorgeous property so we could have a safe haven. This is our corner. Nothing bad is to happen here. Time moves slowly here.

No matter how hard I try to block the world out, it still comes knocking.

Despite our best efforts to get Chris well again, he wandered off this morning. We ended up getting two days of antibiotics and vitamins in him. We were able to get him up and walking around yesterday. Today, Husband thinks he’s “holding the stars”. We have walked all over this property, trying to retrieve his body so I can bury him properly. I really don’t think Chris wanted me to find him in his state.

I’m so exhausted. I’m sick of losing hatch after hatch. There has been so much death on the farm this year. The kids are so numb to death. It doesn’t affect them anymore.

In between the farm and personal life - I’m tapped at the moment and unsure of what direction I’m going in.

You can catch me watching old videos of my Turkey babies while sobbing. Juvenile poults are my absolute favorite.

I’m thinking of parting with some Easter Egger hens, all 3 years of age, laying blue/green eggs, maybe 4-5 hens total. I just have too many of this breed and need to restore color balance in my egg basket - interest?!

Follow this post for availability. I will post hens in comments.

The hardest part of raising any type of livestock,.. is when they are sick. Most of the time, you have no other option than to become your own veterinarian.

Because poultry are prey animals, they don’t show signs of ailment until they realllllly aren’t well.

A few months back, we noticed some pecking in the flock. A couple hens grew a liking to the turkeys’ new pin feathers from fall molt. This created a wound. Of course, over the years, we’ve learned what wounds in the flock become. Continuous pecking - cannibalism. We found the wound on his tail, cleaned it and stopped the pecking.

The wound was at least an inch deep and required packing. In a perfect world, I would have ran with him to the vet but that’s costly and there are methods to care for this yourself.

Now that we have the wound healed and pecking stopped, you’d think we were smooth sailing. But nah.

Two days ago - we noticed some abnormal behavior from Chris. Very lame. Laying down in the main coop. Wouldn’t come when called. Color is very pale for a turk and super loose stool. Infection. This isn’t good and can turn grave very quickly because the animal can no longer mask their symptoms - natural prey behavior.

We have visited two farm stores and called all of the rest in search of a poultry safe antibiotic. All 4 local stores are sold out of Tylan 50 but one has penicillin.

We’re asking for prayers and for all of the healing vibes that you can muster. All flock members are pets to us and not seen as livestock - especially our turkeys.
