Nation’s Beekeepers Lost 44 Percent of Bees in 2015-16 | Bee Informed Partnership

While the entire country lost 44% of it's bees to death, we lost 0% of our bees for 2015. Bee's die for all kinds of reasons, but a part of the problem is the big-beekeeping industry as a whole is following the same flawed direction as big-agriculture. In a lot of ways, big-agriculture with its standardize monoculture model is creating a bubble that will pop. When that bubble pops, our food will be scarce and thus more expensive. Shifting from a monoculture to a polyculture in farming is not easy, but it starts with supporting smaller farmers and beekeepers who do not rely on chemicals and having to always choose the most efficient method of harvest and production at the expensive of sustainability.

60 tons of honey illegally imported from China seized by federal authorities in Chicago

Buy honey straight from a beekeeper, not a grocery store! Local honey is better anyways because it contains billions of particulates from your local tree and plants which helps support your immune system in combating allergenic reactions to pollen.

Federal agents in Chicago have seized 60 tons of illegally imported Chinese honey valued at more than $200,000 destined for U.S. consumers, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said Thursday.
