What occurred in the Philly Gayborhood last night was ridiculous.

Just north of 12th and Walnut I was almost clothes lined by a drunk stranger looking for a fight, while riding on my scooter home.

I was then almost mobbed by a crowd when I confronted the guy. If it wasn't for my ability to get away quickly on my scooter I'm not sure how things would have went for me. There were far too many intoxicated folks on the streets.

I also have to state that the outdated crowd control tactics utilized by the Philadelphia Police Department were unacceptable.

Philly Pride 365 didn't have any involvement in the logistics of the street held events produced in the Gayborhood. We were not privy to how the crowds were going to be managed by the PPD. They didn't share their plans with anyone. I want to make that all crystal clear so there are no misunderstandings.

We all want to protect our community, but last night showed that many challenges still exist.

We must do better.
