Orange Chicken 🍊🐔
Ingredients:
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
For the Orange Sauce:
- 1 cup fresh orange juice (about 2-3 oranges)
- Zest of 1 orange
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (slurry)
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- Sliced green onions (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions:
Prepare the Chicken:
1. In a bowl, combine cornstarch, flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and ginger powder.
2. Toss the chicken pieces in the flour mixture until evenly coated. Shake off any excess.
Fry the Chicken:
3. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
4. Once the oil is hot, add the chicken pieces in batches, frying until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Make the Orange Sauce:
5. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the fresh orange juice, orange zest, sugar, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using).
6. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves.
7. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.
Combine and Serve:
8. Add the fried chicken to the saucepan with the orange sauce, tossing to coat the chicken evenly.
9. Serve the orange chicken over steamed rice or noodles, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
