Some of our board members, Jim Chamberlin of Island Lake Farm and Judy Worm of Clayhill Farm and Forest, got a chance to join Great River Greening , Sustainable Farming Association , and members from our local prescribed burn association for a pasture walk at Sunup Ranch Quarter Horses & Cattle to talk about silvopasture and the recent prescribed burn they conducted. A great evening with fantastic conversation, observations and reflections on the prescribed burn, and a feeling of community. Thank you to Peter Ripka with the Minnesota Farmers Union for joining in the conversation as well!

Management: How Grazing Decisions Protect Soil. Theory is only useful when it meets practice. This blog from Happy Dancing Turtle lays out the grazing strategies that protect soil: timely rotation, adequate recovery for plants, avoiding overgrazing, and using livestock as a tool to stimulate plant growth.
