🐑❤️ MEET THE FLOCK MONDAY — DOTTIE ❤️🐑

After introducing y’all to some of our more colorful personalities, it’s time to meet one who makes life a little easier around here. 😂

Meet Dottie!

Dottie is just an all-around great ewe. She’s easygoing, goes where she needs to go, and doesn’t make a whole production out of everything.

✂️ No shearing drama — because there’s no shearing involved.
🐾 She doesn’t mind the farrier.
🐑 She’s easy to handle.
❤️ And most importantly, she is an excellent mother.

No chasing. No wrestling match. No questioning my life choices. 😂

Dottie may not give us the wild stories that some of the others do, but sometimes the best sheep are the ones who simply do their job and do it well.

That’s our Dottie — dependable, easygoing, a wonderful mama, and exactly the kind of ewe we’re thankful to have in our flock. ❤️🐑

🐑🌅 Farm Friday at Faraway Downs Dorpers!

While most folks were still enjoying their warm beds, I was hitting the road well before daylight to stock up on Umbarger 19% Lamb Feed before the rain hits! 🚗💨🐑🌧️

Around here, good nutrition isn’t an option, it’s a priority! 💪 Quality feed, proper supplements, and a balanced diet play a huge role in raising healthy, strong, fast-growing lambs.

I put a lot of time, effort, and money into making sure my flock gets the nutrition they need to reach their full potential. You can’t expect quality results without putting quality into them!

Early mornings, long drives, unpredictable weather, and feed bills are just part of the journey. And I wouldn’t trade it! ❤️

🐑⛈️ Storm Prep at Faraway Downs Dorpers!

Around here, preparing for a potential storm isn’t as simple as telling the sheep to take cover!

Today has been spent moving sheep, hay feeders, feed troughs, and protein tubs to pastures with shelters, just in case the weather decides to get rough.

And let’s be clear… moving the sheep is only HALF the battle! 😂🐑

Thankfully, I’m blessed with a wonderful daughter who, without ever being asked, offered to help get everyone and everything moved! ❤️ Those are the moments that make this mama’s heart proud. Having someone who sees what needs to be done and willingly jumps in to help is a blessing I don’t take for granted!

We’re praying this storm doesn’t amount to much, but I’d rather put in the extra work now than worry about my flock later.

Praying for everyone’s safety as we prepare for whatever Mother Nature has planned. 🙏

😂 Last night at Faraway Downs…

All I wanted was to enjoy a nice, cool, peaceful evening walking the dogs. That apparently was asking too much.

I know my sheep well enough to know their different sounds, and suddenly I hear THE yell. You know—the one that says, “Human! I have made questionable choices and require assistance!” 🤦‍♀️🐑

So I go investigate and find this ewe lamb with her head “stuck” in the hay feeder.

Except…she wasn’t actually stuck.

She had managed to put her head in there perfectly fine and then apparently forgot that backing up was an option. 😂

No emergency. No rescue required. Just a brief moment when the brain cells failed to report for duty.

And there went my peaceful evening. 😂

🐑 Meet the Flock Monday — Penny 🐑

Meet Penny… another member of the “I’ll be where I want to be” club. 😂

Penny has a special talent for being anywhere except where she’s supposed to be. When everyone else moves to another pasture, Penny sometimes decides walking is optional… which means she gets her own personal transportation. 🚙🐑

Thankfully, I’ve got a great—and strong—farm helper who has become family to handle the heavy lifting when Penny decides she needs a ride. 😂💪🏻 Because there are definitely some farm jobs that require a little extra muscle!

These big personalities are exactly what make our flock our flock. Every one of them has their own quirks, and Penny definitely keeps life at FDD interesting.

🐑 We have some new faces here, so I thought it was time to introduce myself and share a little about the heart behind Faraway Downs Dorpers.

Hi, I’m Kelli, the person behind FDD. 🤍

Faraway Downs started from a place I never expected. In 2020, I lost my son. He loved all things farm related, and somewhere in learning how to live with that grief, the farm and eventually these sheep became part of my healing.

What began as a way to give me purpose and somewhere positive to put my energy slowly grew into something I truly love. There’s something about caring for animals that keeps you moving forward—even on the hard days.

Today, FDD is about raising healthy, quality Registered Dorpers, continually learning and improving the flock, and sharing the real side of raising sheep. There are new lambs, accomplishments, lessons learned…and, of course, a few sheep who believe my plans are merely suggestions. 😂

More than anything, this farm reminds me of God’s faithfulness. What began during one of the hardest seasons of my life has grown into something filled with purpose, joy, and blessings I never could have imagined.

So, if you’re new here—welcome to Faraway Downs Dorpers. I’m glad you’re here, and I hope you’ll stick around and follow my journey. 🤍🐑

Busy but productive Saturday at FDD! 🐑🤍

Water troughs are cleaned, the bred ewes got some extra hay, and the chores are getting checked off one by one.

And right in the middle of the work, this little butterfly showed up. 🦋 A simple reminder to slow down for just a second and appreciate God’s beautiful creation—and just how blessed we truly are.

The work may never be finished around here, but neither are His blessings. ❤️

People may look at FDD and see a small flock.

I see something completely different.

I see the ewes we’ve watched become mothers. The lambs we’ve helped into this world and watched grow. I see breeding decisions, long days, late nights, feed buckets, FAMACHA checks, weights, records, lessons learned—and occasionally a sheep determined to make me question every life decision that led me here. 😂

But more than that, I see how far Faraway Downs Dorpers has come.

Every sheep here has a purpose. Some will become part of the future of our breeding program. Some will eventually move on to other farms. And some have earned a permanent place here simply because they helped build what FDD is becoming.

We may be considered a small flock, but there is nothing small about the amount of heart, work, prayer, and hope poured into it.

And through every season, one thing has remained constant—the Lord has blessed us beyond what we could have imagined, and He continues to bless this farm. There have been answered prayers, unexpected blessings, hard lessons, and reminders that His plans are always bigger than ours.

“The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.” — Psalm 126:3

FDD wasn’t built overnight, and we’re still learning and growing. But when I look across this flock, I don’t just see sheep. I see blessings. I see answered prayers. And I see a farm that the Lord continues to grow in His own time.
