I don’t take days off. Even on my birthday.

Lambs needed to be vaccinated and a couple of mamas needed to be checked.

I make working them as stress free as possible for them and me. If they take a little extra time going through the shoot I’m fine with that as long as they aren’t stressed.

🐑 Fun Fact Friday! 🌿

Did you know? A ewe’s body condition before breeding can have a big impact on how many lambs she has. Healthy ewes that are at an ideal body condition are more likely to conceive, carry healthy pregnancies, and often have a better chance of producing twins.

At Faraway Downs Dorpers, good nutrition, quality forage, and year-round flock management all play an important role in setting our sheep up for success.

What’s your guess… single or twins this fall? 👇🐑

A productive day at Faraway Downs Dorpers! 🌿🐑

Our maiden ewes got a fresh shear, and the whole flock has been rotated to fresh paddocks. Rotational grazing helps keep our sheep healthy, makes better use of our pastures, and gives the grass time to recover.

One more step in caring for our flock and preparing for the season ahead! 💚

Every sheep at Faraway Downs Dorpers is registered because quality genetics and accurate pedigrees matter. It’s all part of our commitment to raising the best flock we can.

🐑 Registered. Proven. Growing with purpose.

🌾 Why do we grow lespedeza?

At Faraway Downs Dorpers, we’re always looking for ways to raise healthy sheep naturally. Sericea lespedeza is a high-quality forage that’s rich in protein, and research has shown it can help reduce parasite burdens, including the barber pole worm, as part of a sound parasite management program.

This hay season has definitely tested our patience. Between rain showers and trying to catch the perfect drying window, making hay has been a challenge. But that’s farming—you work hard, trust God’s timing, and keep moving forward.

We’re praying for a little more sunshine and looking forward to putting up a quality hay crop that will help feed and support our flock for the seasons ahead. 🌾🐑🙏

🐑❤️ A few of God’s little blessings.

These lambs are a reminder that every new season brings new life, new hope, and countless reasons to be thankful. Watching them grow has been one of the greatest joys of spring here at Faraway Downs Dorpers.

🌿 Meet the Girls of Faraway Downs Dorpers 🌿

Behind every successful lambing season is a group of hardworking ewes, and we’re proud to introduce the girls that make Faraway Downs Dorpers so special.

Our proven ewes recently wrapped up an incredible spring lambing season, blessing us with 8 healthy lambs from just 5 ewes. These dependable mothers continue to demonstrate the excellent maternal instincts, productivity, and performance that are so important in our breeding program. Watching them care for their lambs has been a true blessing.

Standing alongside them are our maiden ewes—the next generation of Faraway Downs Dorpers. These young females are growing beautifully and are expected to welcome their very first lambs this fall. We are excited to see them begin their journey as mothers and continue building the future of our flock.

Every ewe has an important role here, and each one represents our commitment to raising quality Dorpers with strong genetics, sound structure, and excellent maternal ability.

We’re grateful for God’s blessings on our farm and can’t wait to share the next chapter with you as we look ahead to our fall lambing season. Thank you for following along on our journey! 🐑❤️

Hi everyone 🤍
I wanted to share a little more about the heart behind Faraway Downs Dorpers.

My name is Kelli Wilson Thompson, and I’m the owner and operator. But more than that… this farm has become part of my healing, my purpose, and my “why.”

Faraway Downs began after the loss of my son. He had a deep love for all things farming — the land, the animals, the simple, honest way of life. That love didn’t leave when he did… it stayed with me.

What started as a way to hold onto that connection has grown into something meaningful. Every early morning, every lamb born, every step out in the pasture — it all carries a piece of him with it.

This farm is built on more than good genetics and hard work. It’s built on love, resilience, and honoring a life that continues to inspire me every single day.

Thank you for being here, for supporting this journey, and for allowing me to share a piece of my story with you.

🐑 More than a farm — it’s a legacy of love.

— Kelli
