Poppies in the Rain

Some pieces are created not only to be worn, but to carry a feeling.

This one-of-a-kind reversible shawl moves between two moods: charcoal grey with vivid red poppies and green details on one side, and warm aged-gold tones with felted yarn and a subtle touch of Lurex on the reverse. Handmade from superfine merino wool, Tencel, viscose and silk fibers, it includes a matching handmade poppy brooch.

A little color for the darker days.

This one-of-a-kind bucket hat is hand-felted in rich purple, lavender and fuchsia, with subtle golden fibers running through the surface.

Made from superfine merino wool, Tencel and viscose, it is soft rather than structured and shaped entirely by hand into a relaxed bucket silhouette.

I finally did it.
For a long time, I kept saying I would create a proper home for my work one day. I finally gave myself the time to do it, and my website — Gelme’s Designs - is now live.
I built the website myself, learning as I went, just as I make every piece you see there myself. There were certainly moments when I wondered why I decided to do all of it on my own 😊, but I wanted the website to feel like my work — personal, individual, and truly mine.

You certainly do not have to buy anything. Simply visiting, looking through my work, sharing it with someone who may appreciate it, or telling me what you think would mean a lot to me — and it helps more people discover the work of a small independent artist.
There is another part of the website that is especially personal to me: Conversations in the Studio.
Some of you know that I have been working on a book. These conversations grew from many of the ideas and life experiences behind it.
They are conversations between two different voices — sometimes agreeing, sometimes seeing things very differently — but without anger and without trying to diminish one another.
I think we have lost some of that in the world today.
I wanted to create a place where different points of view can exist in the same conversation, where we can question ideas, listen to another perspective, and perhaps understand not only each other a little better, but ourselves as well.
So when you visit, I hope you will read even one Conversation in the Studio. It may tell you a little more about the person behind the work.
Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me, bought my work, stopped at my booth, followed what I make, or simply told me, “Keep going.”

Wearable art doesn’t have to be saved for a special occasion.

This one-of-a-kind felted top combines soft beige and taupe tones with an architectural, sculptural shape. The open back detail, kimono-style sleeves and individually sewn beads give it character without taking away from its quiet elegance.

Deep tonal blues, marked with small irregular circles of white fiber. This one-of-a-kind scarf is the smaller and lighter of my three new sculptural designs.

I wet-felted it by hand from superfine merino wool with viscose and Tencel fibers. The decorated side carries the white markings; the reverse is quieter and emphasizes the tonal blue variations. An integrated felted loop forms the closure.

Lilies at Twilight 🌙

A garden caught at the edge of evening.

Deep purple forms the background for lilies glowing in orange, pink and violet, surrounded by shifting blues and greens. Turn the shawl over and it becomes something entirely different — purple and warm gold, quieter and more understated.

When Beauty Comes Through the Cracks of Stone

Beauty does not require a perfect surface in order to exist.

This one-of-a-kind reversible hand-felted poncho contrasts grey, charcoal and white stone-like forms—carved directly into the felt—with flowers individually sewn onto the surface. The reverse reveals bluish grey with a flowing yellow-orange accent. Two intentionally designed sides, and two distinct ways to wear an original piece of fiber art.

Burgundy meets blue and violet in this one-of-a-kind sculptural scarf, with small touches of warm golden fiber woven into the surface.

I wet-felted it by hand from superfine merino wool, viscose and Tencel. The integrated felted loop holds the scarf naturally in place, allowing the edges to settle into soft, dimensional folds.
