⭐️ New Kensington is nowhere near my house, but I will gladly make the drive for this pizza. This was our second time filming at Common Oven, and I was excited to get back. They’re tucked inside Strange Roots, which is honestly a really cool experience on its own. There’s plenty of room inside, a huge outdoor space, and on a nice day, that’s usually where we like to hang out. Last week was pushing 100 degrees though, so we took the cameras inside 😅
Gavin is one of those people you can tell genuinely cares about what he’s making for you. They mill whole grains in house, age their sourdough for several days, slice their own steaks, meats, and cheeses, and bring in fresh mozzarella from Caputo Brothers Creamery. There are no shortcuts here, and you can taste it. And please don’t overlook the cheesesteak. Good cheesesteaks are harder to find around Pittsburgh than they should be, and the bread is usually where they lose me. That’s definitely not the case here. Gavin makes the sourdough bread for the sandwiches, and the payoff is huge. That cheesesteak is unbelievable.
Huge shoutout to Gavin for sending us home with a few of their sourdough chocolate chip cookies too. I had never had a cookie made like that before, and they were amazing. Get one….Seriously. Between the pizza, the cheesesteak, the space, and the crew behind it, I love coming out here. This is easily some of the best pizza you can find around Pittsburgh, and absolutely worth the drive to New Kensington.
