MoonLit Burgers ⭐️ I’ve been a big fan of Moonlit for years, but until this week, I’d never actually been to their Garfield location. We almost always hit the one in Dormont, so it was cool getting to spend some time in Garfield, learn a little more about what they’re doing, and try some of the new stuff they’ve added.

The Garfield location has a full bar and a new happy hour food menu with a few things you won’t find at their other locations. We got to try all three:

Hatch Chili Pub Burger — A thick, juicy 8 ounce burger that’s a completely different experience from their signature smash burgers.

Chili Cheese Nachos — Another new addition to the happy hour lineup.

Saucy Nugs — Moonlit’s take on boneless wings. We tried the garlic parmesan, which ended up being my favorite.

These new food items are currently exclusive to the Garfield location during happy hour:

Tuesday–Friday: 3–6 PM
Saturday–Sunday: 2–4 PM

And if you’ve been following me for a while, you already know how much I love Moonlit. We’ve been going there pretty much since they started. My regular order is the triple with everything on it, those thin crispy patties and all those onions, plus the smash fries, which are legitimately some of my favorite fries anywhere. And if we’re really hungry, we’ll throw a chicken sandwich in there just to be safe.

Shelbin Santos ⭐️ There are some restaurant owners who make you want to root for them just as much as you root for the restaurant, and Shelbin Santos is one of those people ❤️

A native of Peru, Shelbin opened Chicken Latino in 2007 after fulfilling a lifelong dream of sharing the food and traditions she grew up with. Some of her favorite childhood memories were spent around the table with extended family, eating traditional Peruvian dishes made from recipes her mother created. She wanted to bring a little bit of that experience here. And she went all in…Shelbin even imported a special wood fired brick oven from Peru so she could prepare her food in the traditional style she remembered from home. Her signature pollo a la brasa is marinated overnight and seasoned with cumin, garlic, cilantro and dried Peruvian chiles before being cooked in that oven.

Nearly 20 years later, Chicken Latino is now in Beechview and Shelbin is still doing what she set out to do back in 2007. Beyond the food, she’s just a genuinely wonderful human being, and getting to tell the stories of people like her is one of my favorite parts of doing this.

There’s a lot more here than I could ever fit into one reel, so go experience Chicken Latino for yourself…and make sure you say hi to Shelbin while you’re there 🇵🇪

Angel Vega ⭐️ This little pink truck out by the airport was such a good find 🌮 Caliente Taqueria keeps the menu pretty simple with tacos, quesadillas, and burritos, but the birria was easily my favorite thing we tried. They come out piping hot, crispy and loaded with cheese, with consomé on the side for dipping….I’d absolutely get those again. The biggest thing to know before you go is that they’re not open on a regular daily schedule, so following them on Instagram is definitely the move. Today they’ll be at the BP on University Boulevard in Moon Township from 12–6p and Saturday they’ll be at the Pittsburgh Gun Club starting at 10:30a….After that, keep an eye on their page to see where they’ll be next.

It’s a small, family run business, the owner couldn’t have been nicer, and I love finding places like this that are out there doing their thing and staying involved in the community. Definitely worth tracking them down when you get the chance 💯

Page’s fall menu is here, and this is easily one of my favorite times of the year to stop by….We tried the Maple Delight Sundae with cinnamon-swirled sweet dough and maple icing, the Pumpkin Roll Arctic Swirl loaded with freshly baked pumpkin roll, and my personal favorite, the Hot Apple Dumpling Sundae. The warm apple dumplings come from Potomac Bakery, which is one of the things I love about Page’s…they’re always finding ways to work with other local Pittsburgh businesses. We also tried their new chai and cinnamon shake, and apparently I’ve been sleeping on the take home ice cream pies because I legit had no idea they offered them. There’s a ton more on the fall menu too, with everything from apple butter and maple to pumpkin, caramel, chai, and more. Page’s only has about 20 days left in their season, so there isn’t much time left to check it out. And knowing me, this definitely won’t be my last trip before they close…

Panaderia Jazmin ⭐️ I love this place and the people behind it. There is way more to this bakery than we could possibly fit into a 42 second video. They brought out a LOT of food, and there honestly wasn’t much I wouldn’t order again. The Huevos Divorciados came with two eggs, red and green salsa, avocado, pico de gallo, refried beans and rice. We also tried the Enchiladas Mixtas…three shredded chicken enchiladas with mole, verde and frontera sauces. Then there was the torta, made on bread they bake themselves. Actually, all of their breads are made in house. The Caldo de Res was one of the biggest surprises for me…tender beef and vegetables in a homemade broth that was incredible and easily one of my favorite things we tried. We also had the Birria Omelet filled with slow cooked birria and cheese and served with consommé, tacos, and a burrito bowl loaded with Mexican rice, black beans, corn, tomatoes, mozzarella, sour cream, avocado and chipotle salsa.

And somehow, after all of that, there’s still an entire bakery….The cases are packed with traditional Mexican breads and sweets…conchas, churros, pan dulce, pastries, cookies, Mexican donuts and plenty more. We couldn’t even fit the dessert case into the video. They make their own cakes and desserts too, including tres leches, which in my opinion is the best I’ve had in Pittsburgh. I highly recommend trying it if you make it here. Their original Beverly Road bakery was a tiny storefront, and eventually they simply needed more room. The larger space allowed them to expand the food side of the business while keeping the bakery at the heart of what they do. You can come in for breakfast or a full Mexican meal, grab something from the bakery case on your way out, and there’s a family tradition connecting all of it. I really loved this place. If Panadería Jazmín hasn’t been on your radar yet, put it there!

Hi I’m Mike from Dope Eats…Here are some of my favorites from the last few months. 📸 I realized recently that I spend a lot of time on this page talking about other people’s businesses and not very much time talking about ours….Dope Eats started as a way for us to share restaurants we love, and that’s still a huge part of what we do. When we reach out to a restaurant about doing a Dope Eats feature, there’s no catch and no obligation to work with us afterward. Those videos are free….It’s simply our way of finding places we believe in, telling their story, and hopefully putting a few new people through their doors.

But we’re also a small Pittsburgh business ourselves….We professionally shoot food photography and video, create social content, and work directly with restaurants that need help consistently showing up online. Some of those relationships have turned into ongoing partnerships where we’re at the restaurant every week creating new content, and we’re posting for them every day they’re open. Our clients have access to our schedule, we keep a steady stream of fresh photo and video content coming in, and we try to make the entire process as easy and affordable as possible for the restaurant. They get to focus on running their business while we make sure people are seeing it. And that’s really why we’ve decided to keep doing Dope Eats the way we do. We can use this page to give some love to restaurants without asking for anything in return, meet some really great people along the way, and occasionally those introductions turn into relationships where we can help them beyond a single Reel….We’re not trying to turn every restaurant we feature into a client. Most won’t be, and that’s completely fine. We just believe that if we keep doing good work for good local businesses, some of those relationships will naturally grow into something more.

So here’s a little of the other side of Dope Eats. We’re a local business supporting local businesses, and I’m pretty proud of what we’re building.…If you own a restaurant and ever need help with photography, video, or keeping your social media active, my DMs are always open.

Little Bangkok in the Strip ⭐️ Little Bangkok has been sitting right next to Roland’s on Penn Ave for years, but this was my first time stopping in…and we should’ve made it here much sooner.

Chef Penny’s cooking is rooted in recipes passed down by her mother in Thailand. Being located in the heart of the Strip also gives them direct access to fresh produce, which they combine with real fruit juices, herbs, and the proper ingredients instead of taking easier shortcuts. We started with spring rolls and crab rangoons before getting into the spicy Pad Thai and Thai iced tea. The Pad Kra Pow, made with minced meat, garlic, basil, and sunny side up eggs….was my favorite, while the shrimp green curry brought coconut, eggplant, and Thai basil together in a completely different way. And that mango sticky rice was exactly how this meal needed to end.

There’s a lot of Thai food around Pittsburgh, but this one feels personal, thoughtful, and connected to the food Chef Penny grew up with. Little Bangkok in the Strip absolutely belongs on your list.

Nancy's Revival ⭐️ Next time we collab with Nancy’s Revival we’re def showing you the crepe style pancakes. They’re incredible and didn’t make this video, but they absolutely need their moment.

Nancy’s Revival has been part of the East End since 1974, and stepping inside still feels like walking into a true old school Pittsburgh diner. It’s modest, nostalgic, and focused on what matters: affordable, home cooked food served in portions that make sure nobody leaves hungry.

The corned beef hash was excellent, the Fat Cat is a serious breakfast plate, and there was plenty of dippy eggs and home fries. The biscuits and sausage gravy were easily one of the highlights of the meal.

A huge thank you to Jordan for having us and helping keep Nancy’s tradition alive. Places like this are an important part of Pittsburgh’s food story, and we’re really glad we finally had the chance to share it.
