After hand-picking over 5,000 chamomile flowers this season, a friend suggested I try a blueberry rake.

I am too cheap to buy the $100 chamomile rake.
So, for $10, I was willing to experiment.

The chamomile was not consulted.

The rake definitely harvested flowers, but it also harvested stems, leaves, and a few new questions.

Did it save time? I don't think so.
Did it create more sorting? Absolutely!

The verdict is still out, but one thing is certain: the chamomile never saw me coming. 🦈 🤣

Today, while rinsing freshly harvested lemon balm from the garden, I discovered a tiny white butterfly nestled among the leaves.

She created a break in my busy morning that I didn’t realize I needed.

I carried her back outside and found a shrub where she could rest and flutter freely once again.

It was such a simple moment, but one that filled my heart with joy.

These are the moments that help regulate my nervous system. Not because they solve every problem, but because they gently remind me to slow down, breathe deeply, and notice the beauty God has woven into creation.

A butterfly hidden in lemon balm. The warmth of the sun. The scent of fresh herbs. The quiet reminder that there is still goodness all around us.

Homesteading has taught me that joy is rarely found in the big milestones. More often, it's found in the small moments we're willing to notice.

Today, it came in the form of a beautiful white butterfly.

The chamomile harvest continues.

I have harvested just shy of 5,000 flowers in the last few weeks and have many more to harvest in the days ahead.

And yes, I count and weigh every single harvest.

Part of it is practical. Tracking harvests helps me understand what the land is producing each season and plan for future years.

Part of it is simply who I am. There's something satisfying about seeing those numbers add up and looking back at the end of the year to see everything the homestead has provided.

But beyond the numbers, chamomile brings me so much joy. The tiny flowers, the sweet apple-like scent, the pollinators buzzing through the patch, and the knowledge that each bloom will become something useful.

Chamomile has been treasured for generations for its calming properties and gentle support of the nervous system, digestion, and overall wellness.

Every flower harvested today will eventually find its way into teas and future products shared with our local community.

Thousands of flowers.
Countless hours.
And every one of them is worth it.

Somewhere in this bowl is today's harvest total.

I've counted them.
My fingers counted them.
My back and bum definitely counted them.

Now it's your turn.
What's your guess?

Meanwhile I’m out here feeding chickens, planting seedlings, hand harvesting chamomile, and reheating the same cup of coffee for the third time. 🤦‍♀️

But inside the hive? The queen lays one egg and immediately has an entire staff attending to her every need. Security detail. Housekeeping. Meal prep. Childcare. Climate control. The bees may have life figured out. 😂

Seriously, I'm so excited to have them back on the homestead.

The chamomile patch always looks so dreamy this time of year.

Mid-morning light, bees buzzing, tiny flowers dancing in the breeze…and then there’s me hand picking every single bloom one by one. 😂

Today’s harvest stopped at 1,000 flowers because apparently “handcrafted” also means “personally counted by the farmer for harvest tracking.”

Yes, I count and weigh everything.

But truthfully, this is one of my favorite parts of the season too. Even if my face doesn't show it. 😉

Every flower becomes tea, tinctures, salves, and remedies that support homes naturally and intentionally. There’s something deeply special about slowing down enough to harvest medicine by hand, even on the days my back disagrees.

Small batch. Hand harvested. No shortcuts. Just sunshine, soil, and a whole lot of chamomile.

Coming to the markets or available to pickup here at the homestead soon! 🤗

Part two of the first 2026 garden tour.

One of my favorite things about gardening is realizing that every single thing is connected.

The flowers call in pollinators.
The herbs support wellness.
The veggies nourish our bodies.
The bees help the entire system thrive.
Even the chickens contribute back to the soil.

This little homestead ecosystem is far from perfect, but it is intentional.

The more we learn about how food is grown, the more important it becomes to grow nutrient-dense food in ways that work with nature.

Healthy soil produces healthier plants, and healthier plants help support healthier bodies.

There’s just something sacred about growing food that will come to bless a family in the community around us.

Thanks for coming along for the tour!
Catch you again as the roots continue to grow deeper.

Apparently, today is world bee day. 🐝

I love spending time watching the girls love on the salvia this time of year.

Part one of the first garden tour of 2026 is here.

What started as bare soil is slowly becoming a space that will overflow with nourishment, beauty, medicine, and purpose.

Every row, flower, and herb has a job here on the homestead — feeding our community, supporting pollinators, healing the soil, or preserving food for seasons ahead.

We grow with a deep respect for how God designed creation to work together. Healthy soil. Nutrient-dense food. Pollinator support. Diversity. Restoring instead of depleting.

There is something deeply healing about putting your hands in the dirt and watching life grow where there once was nothing.

This is only part one because like usual...
I got long winded.

Come back for part 2 with a surprise guest. 😉
